A bit of fun street photography, I wanted the shadow of the streetlamp included, unfortunately it points to the dustbin lol.

Super shot - background suits it so well and the birds "pose" is excellent!

Just one question - What is it?
Thank you, the bird is a Cormorant I believe, well pretty sure it is

My first pic other than my Avatar, which is just a smaller cut version, so I'm testing here.

I slowly sneaked up on this fella and he heard my footsteps and swiveled his head around making an amusing photo. Hopefully not too much detail has gone in shrinking. Taken on a KP, DA*300 back in November 2020.

If you go for a P30n;
Always fit new fresh batteries in the P30n as I have just learnt the hard way! lol. I recently acquired a P30n and was worried that the 'B'ulb setting didn't work, and also sometimes the 1 second shutter was too fast.
Then remembered I had read somewhere (probably the manual) that the B setting was heavy on the battery, so perhaps the 1 second speed was related. So quickly tried a fully manual lens and that was the same, I had tried the batteries in my KX slr and they were fine, but obviously the current draw is much less, so put fresh batteries in the P30n and Bingo all works fine.
So my lesson learnt, don't be a tight fisted old git, but I'll probably use the old tired batteries in the KX!!!

Oh I can confirm it definitely has a release cable socket by the camera lens mount.

Couldn't resist, got this in mint condition, as near as good as my k1000. Becoming a collector
Oh, found my receipt for the k1000, half price closing down sale at Comet in 24/09/87 body only at £45.

Just need to film test now, everything appears to work.
Btw, as a quick check I tried 2 digital and 3 film slr cameras metering at same subject and all gave same f stop reading with 200 ISO and 1/4 shutter. I know this is not scientific but is it a check worth any merit?

Hmm, I have a second hand kx which I updated the software version immediately and use Eneloop batteries. I can't say I've noticed a problem as for one I don't shoot more than 30 shots over a typical weekend, and two I'm new to the digital slr.
I'm fairly positive it would do at least 60 shots , certainly not noticed rapid drop in the LCD battery display. I shall have to get using more and test it out. Maybe the older lens soak up more power?
One caveat is I use old smc m lenses often on the kx, so no sdm or power hungry ones.
Pleased with it's performance and quite like the fact it takes AA batteries, always thought this point was one of the reasons why I purchased it.

Interesting read. I started with the ME Super and then picked up the k1000 later as a backup at a bargain price. The ME Super developed a fault with the led lights, which brings me to my one point;
the more tech the more to break down.
It's the same with modern cars imho.
But my caveat is that it hasn't put me off
Someone said the fact that the k1000 is so basic makes it "the ideal beginners slr".
Good article, I'm not knocking it, but the mention of missing functions made me think of cars, bring back the old handbrake

Many thanks for the replies, I have seen them for £250'ish on eBay and the used appearance, leaves me feeling smug you might say lol. I shall keep mine as for one I don't need the cash, and two I will have a play every now and then. I'll attempt a photo post of the k1000 but it's not for sale.

A quick query if I may, (not sure if this is the correct place/section) on my K1000, I wonder what it is worth to say a collector?
I will say it's been kept in kids' gloves, ( see my intro ) not a mark anywhere, finish as new, even the battery screw cover is without marks, as used a fibre washer instead of a coin, and it probably has only had the number of batteries you can count on one hand!
I recently replaced the light seals, mirror seal, even the prism seat/edges foam was removed and cleaned out.
Tested with film and all ok.
I have seen the offers on Ebay over many months now, and none absolutely none come anywhere near as mint, so it got me thinking what mine maybe worth. I also have a mint 50mm f1.7 lens that has not been 'refurbished' and is excellent too.
The receipt from Comet was binned sadly not that long ago, I remember disposing of my photo receipts which I had kept (for foreign holidays believing you required proof of UK purchase at Customs back in the day).
If I were younger I would definitely keep it, seems a shame to do so.
What do ya think?
