My 'collector's piece' what is it worth?

You've already posted this, so please only post things once. People will see it. If there are multiple postings then the replies will get confused over different sections and it won't help.
If you want to sell, then the Classified section of the forum is the place. You'll need to quote a price and also give people an idea of where you are, just in case they want to meet and inspect. Just the general area will do, don't post your full address.

Given the silly money a K1000 can fetch in the right hands, £250 maybe, at a push, with the lens?

SRS Microsystems has been selling K1000s with an M 50mm f/2 lens for £250, but I'm not sure in what condition. That's a crazy price in my opinion, for the most basic K body and the most basic M lens, even in mint condition. I'd say £60 tops, but if SRS are good at finding idiots who'll pay silly money then good for them.

I don't understand the popularity of the K1000 personally, seeing the MX often selling for much less (a better camera IMO) - but SRS will pay a fair amount as a P/X, but I'd be surprised if it's much higher than £100.
Your best bet is probably to list it on Ebay , emphasising the condition and including many detailed photos - they do seem to sell quite well on there! A Buy-it-Now with offers should get a quick response!

Many thanks for the replies, I have seen them for £250'ish on eBay and the used appearance, leaves me feeling smug you might say lol. I shall keep mine as for one I don't need the cash, and two I will have a play every now and then. I'll attempt a photo post of the k1000 but it's not for sale.

Agree entirely about the K1000 John . I helped my brother in law pen a piece about it;

Interesting read. I started with the ME Super and then picked up the k1000 later as a backup at a bargain price. The ME Super developed a fault with the led lights, which brings me to my one point;
the more tech the more to break down.
It's the same with modern cars imho.
But my caveat is that it hasn't put me off
Someone said the fact that the k1000 is so basic makes it "the ideal beginners slr".
Good article, I'm not knocking it, but the mention of missing functions made me think of cars, bring back the old handbrake

"PROTECTION PAPER ON THE MIRROR" Do what? They never did, did they?

PS The silvering would be on the surface so anything stuck onto the mirror would damage it, i.e. peel the silvering off.

I have never, ever seen anything on the mirror of any SLR camera. The only peel-off plastic would be on the baseplate.

Agreed, and with digital over the rear screen as well. Never, ever the mirror or anything internal!

If you look at the photos in the listing closely you'll see that the mirror...APPEARS TO BE DAMAGED!!!

Yes it actually shows a lot of wear, commensurate with its age (much more than than one film's worth!)

I will say it's been kept in kids' gloves, ( see my intro ) not a mark anywhere, finish as new, even the battery screw cover is without marks, as used a fibre washer instead of a coin, and it probably has only had the number of batteries you can count on one hand!
I recently replaced the light seals, mirror seal, even the prism seat/edges foam was removed and cleaned out.
Tested with film and all ok.
I have seen the offers on Ebay over many months now, and none absolutely none come anywhere near as mint, so it got me thinking what mine maybe worth. I also have a mint 50mm f1.7 lens that has not been 'refurbished' and is excellent too.
The receipt from Comet was binned sadly not that long ago, I remember disposing of my photo receipts which I had kept (for foreign holidays believing you required proof of UK purchase at Customs back in the day).
If I were younger I would definitely keep it, seems a shame to do so.
What do ya think?
