Well Done John, very imaginative composition, nicely judged too Karma -especially as you didn't get first last week!

Thanks for your interesting and varied responses - it is a topic that is rarely touched upon on this forum, which is why I have just dipped my toe in!
However, you have given me your views that as I usually do shall take onboard, which has given me food for thought.

I like Andrews devasted landsape and I like the way this filter has produced an image that can be used in a positive way perhaps and not trashed., that is WHY I think it has a place, I don't necessarily think it is an 'art' form but just a way of enhancing an image that might not normally have been used, am I making sense?

More subtlety as John says is perhaps more appropriate if one is appealing to the more traditional audience - I suppose this is what it comes down to at the end of the day - your market!

Here is one of my more subtle ones!

Thanks for the feedback, point taken Dirk, I agree with what you say.
I feel this kind of PP does have a place but I am not so naive as to imagine it being a high place aesthetically.
It satisfies me that you can take an image that does not seem to have a lot of potential and transform it into a form that becomes pleasing to the eye that can be used for decoration purposes.
thanks again, Lilly

I have been experimenting with the artistic filters in CS2, being a bit of a frustrated artist at heart, that's why I now paint with light.

Looking for some honest opinion here, I find it difficult to decide how far you can cross the line from a traditional approach to the more impressionistic view, comments welcome please:

Lighting was a wireless AF360FGZ flash, at about 90 degrees to the subject, pointing 45 degrees down through a shoot-through brolly. It was also the first time I really tried processing a colour image with Lightzone - I simply couldn't get it to look right with Bibble.

OMG! you did all that and I hope enjoyed your 'leisurely' breakfast - I am impressed

Galoot: Very funny, but not exactly what I was after, in focus tho’!

John Riley: This just screams to me mono, John, which would have given it a more reportage feel, nice compo but point of focus seems to be on top of monitor and not their faces.

GlynM: I appreciate it is your work place but this choice of shot reflecting your day there is rather devoid of any personal connection.

Csam: Welcome to the forum, and very well done for a mostly lovely portrait of your gorgeous girls, when I first saw this it gave me warmth and I cd begin to imagine your day with them, I love the eye contact and the distracted look and smile of the girl, very natural.

Niblue: Nice juxtaposition of colours but not a great deal of subject matter to stir my imagination.

Justgetoutandride: NICE ONE! Just wot I was after, isn’t it great when shots like this emerge, this is why I chose to approach this weeks theme from a different angle. Mysterious, atmospheric and imaginative, well produced also – it tells a story..FIRST PLACE very well done..

Clarky: congrats too Clarky, hope your day was perfect, nice straight forward shot of a bridge but unfortunately this choice of shot is similar to my thoughts on GlynM’s, you could have made it more personal by perhaps a shot of your meal together a close up of hands/wedding rings on the table, but then you probably had other things on your mind!

Gwyn: thinking on the same wavelength Gwyn, thank you…a very simple subject but well composed, I do think tho’ you had a great opportunity to do a mono version of this, which would have given it a more impact.

AdrianP: I was so pleased when I saw this, it is a great shot, perfectly executed in every way, you can virtually taste and smell. I had the idea that more people would have gone for this theme, like the remnants of the breakfast table an everyday event. Lighting is good too, what did you use? Well deserved SECOND PLACE

karma mechanic: yes, well, nice office and great demonstration of your WA lens ( is it the 10-20 BTW?)

Ammonyte: this did make me smile, imaginative way of approaching the theme and I like that, a still life and demonstration of your day all rolled into one

Nimitz: Don’t get me wrong I love abstract but this is a little too abstract for me, the duck doesn’t even look wet!

McBrian: A personal family shot which tells of a very special day in the life of McBrian, IMHO I feel the color to be a bit cold, faces look a little grey.

Aunt Sally: a very relaxed natural portrait but to have more impact I would have gone for a more shallow DOF, my focus seems to want to lock onto that pine cladding! Would have cropped in left and right also.

Daniel Bridge: My only mono entry… great application of mono tho’ . the lighting from spots fall nicely on the musicians, good angle, a little heavy on the bottom edge which draws my eye down, I would have dodged that guys gansey BR to balance it more and cropped a wee bit off bottom.

Ronniebchristian: I can’t help but feel this is more a picture of the squirrels day than yours and the leaves on the ground seem more in focus than the little chap is!

Lenscape: a well executed abstract image, of a part of your day. A demonstration of the everyday things that go on around us during our day that we take for granted, which I for one wish to photograph more of. THIRD PLACE a spontaneous shot

Well done AJ, over to you...

Cheers, Lilly
