for single images, I open a new workspace in GIMP, at a res of 72 dpi, and the size needed (800 x 600 pixels for instance) then open the original large image as a new layer; scale to size and it's done. When saving, it will ask the quality level needed (default 85%). I change that to 100%.

Not sure if the postage covers world wide, but the ring itself is only C$2.00 or so, and he's posting cheap enough for the UK, so probably won't be a rip off merchant for abroad either??
+100% pos feedback, so you should be fine.

one tip that I can pass on.. don't focus to infinity or at the horizon. Focus about a third of the way into the landscape, usually about half way up the actual land part of the image. (if using the rule of thirds, for instance.. sky=1/3 land=2/3) This puts the centre of the land part of the scene, normally the focal point of the image, in focus.

http://www.freeimagebrowser.com/resize/
I found this little free app a couple of days ago, when I was looking for a watermarking tool. It also does batch resizing and web ready conversions. Would anybody who knows what they're doing like to road test it. It seems to do what it says on the tin, but I'm no expert.

it's the http:// bit that needs to be inserted for that, but you got the reason right. The only thing I can think of is that Spider, being new to here may have to have posted say 50 times before the board software lets him add images to posts. Just a thought really, but I'm bringing myself around to that idea.
I help manage one of the tech support sites, and there are various things that the post count enables.. images, custom avatars, images in the signature area etc., so it's probably right.. :

That's a pint a month for peace of mind, which I suppose is a pretty good deal. If this is massively cheaper than the norm, I'll try and find it again.
