I took this just as I was on my way out last night. Saw the spider on the wall and grabbed the camera. I like the effect of the shadows of the legs making them look a little like petals.. (squint for full effect ) it also helped that the poor thing only had seven legs, making it resemble a flower much more than if it had had the full compliment..

Arty type stuff isn't usually my thing, but I like it in spite of that..

that's a stunning shot. It looks like the perfect shot for a holiday brochure.. have you got a local tourist board with a few quid spare?
I came back from Brugge on Saturday evening, and as the coach exited the train (on the Shuttle) there was one of the nicest sunsets I'd seen in a long while, the clouds were almost cut out of different shades of pink/purple with defined edges. I didn't take a photo, as I would have had to snap it through the window of a moving coach, which would have done it little justice. I'll have to hope that get a similar one locally, and get a foreground to show it off. I drive a van for a living, and spend much of my time looking for opportunities anyway, so hopefully it should be soon.
Again a lovely image Brian,
Cheers

You'll be spoilt for opportunity. It's a wonderful place, and different to anywhere else in Britain. If you only get to do one trip out (I don't know if your wife likes walking, if she does, you're laughing) see if you can spend a day around Malham. They've got limestone pavement up there, similar to the Burren in Co. Clare (Ireland for our overseas visitors). There is also the Cove, a massive limestone (gritstone??) natural amphitheatre.
And of course, for the evenings, I can recommend the Black Sheep Ale, they serve it in most places..

apologies for the incorrect name guess..
I think I know the ones you mean. There are several falls on a route up one gorge and down another with a 30 minute walk between the top of the two; around a 3 1/2 hour walk in total?!. I took several there as well, and will have to ask what they were called also..

Yes, it's the middle falls. I've got some of the upper falls from the road bridge, but we didn't have enough change on us for the honesty box to enter the upper falls, and we're well, honest.
I took one from the bridge that had a bit of flare from the evening sun, and although it, IMHO, enhances the shot, I didn't think anyone else would see it like that, although I may post it later anyway..

it is indeed Aysgarth falls.. I did a google image search!! and there were other photos from exactly the same vantage point, so it may not be completely unique..
Still, I have plenty more; I was very good and only took about a thousand that week. I'll post one up some time this evening. I have to pop out to a friend's house in a little while.. he wants a geek to show him how to use a computer.. I wear the badge proudly.

just thought I'd post up a picture I took in Yorkshire a couple of weeks ago.. don't ask me where it was exactly, I'm rubbish at that sort of thing, but if you need to know I'll ask Mrs. Liam later..

A nice countrified postcardy type scene. If we'd gone back down there later in the week, it would have probably looked more like Niagra, with all the rain we'd had in the meantime..

and welcome to the forum. The great thing about digital is that you can take 1000 photos an hour and it's free. I've never used the sigma lens, but put it on the camera and just shoot a load of pictures. You'll see if you're getting good images or not.
There's also varying ideas on the 18-55. Personally I like it a lot, and so do some others.. others think it's frankly rubbish.. The close focussing ability is one of it's greatest strengths. I beleive the 16-45 doesn't focus as closely, but I've not seen a bad word about it. I seem to remember someone here getting an 18-55 off of ebay for around £30 recently, so if you get it there and don't like it, you'll more than likely get your money back. I could only find a couple on there just now, and they're brand new from the States for £50 odd (plus the same again for postage ) so I'd say keep an eye on ebay for one over here and try it. As I say, I love mine, but some don't..
As far as rationalising your kit????? If you fancy staying around this forum which I hope you do of course, then I hope you have an understanding partner/bank manager.
I have around 10 or 11 lenses myself, probably one of the lowest counts here.. and then you have tubes, filters, tele converters, bags etc.
Only joking, but it's easy to become addicted.
Above all, take lots of pictures and then share them here. That's the joy of digital.
Cheers
