Pentax M10 digital

Hello Everyone,

Can anyone kindly tell me if the lens on the M10 is an SMC lens? From the pictures I've seen, SMC isn't written on the lens. Thanks!

Page 151 of the manual contains the main specifications of this camera. There does not seem to be any mention of SMC coating. Manual can be downloaded from Pentax

To save you some time, I have searched the entire manual for occurences of SMC and coating. Zero hits.

My guess is that it is not an SMC lens.

I did that too, and saw no mention of the an SMC lens. But then I thought "I wonder if it mentions it in one that does have an SMC lens", so looked at the S45, which has SMC emblazoned around the lens, but again, no mention of it in the specification, although I didn't scan the whole manual.

So I don't think the conclusion you drew was necessarily correct for the reason you gave, but if it doesn't have SMC written on the camera somewhere, I would doubt that it has SMC, the S45 being an example of one that does. Various other models also have it clearly marked on the lens, as you would expect.

Could be wrong, of course.

You're right of course and I had done exactly the same thing on the A10 manual but had to go out and didn't edit my post. The only mention of SMC in that manual is a copyright notice. Odd that one of Pentax's greatest claims to fame, their legendry coating, doesn't even warrant a mention. I didn't read through the whole manual, I used Acrobat's search feature.

I would agree, if it doesn't say SMC 'on the tin' . . . it probably isn't.

Thanks for all your input. I took a bit of time before posting because I wanted to check and see what Pentax had to say about the matter. So, let me tell you what they said.

I contacted Pentax and asked whether or not the M10 had an SMC lens. They wrote back and said that it didn't. I rewrote and said that the US website listed the M10 as having an SMC lens. They wrote back and said, "there can be differences between continents. The lens may be such a difference". They reminded me that I contacted the European Pentax support desk. So, since I live in Italy, I went to the Italian website and it also listed the M10 as having an SMC lens. I wrote them back and asked why the Italian website had it listed as such. After a few days, here was their response...

"Dear Sir, Thank you for your enquiry. You asked us about the Optio M10, which is advertises as having an SMC lens. We have investigated the case, the Optio M10 does not have this lens, the information on the Italian website is incorrect. We apologize for the inconvenience".

So, there it is right from the horses mouth. I haven't investigated the ones produced in the States. If anyone else has, I'd be interested in knowing. Thanks again.
