I went to Sharm el Sheik this summer. And being photo-trigger-happy. I of course wanted to take underwater photos.

But alas the price for a underwater housing for my K10 was way off.

So I bought a Cannon powershot S90, and a Ikelite link housing.

I got it all for around 575 GBP.

Just saying, that if you buy a good compact and a underwater housing you can go far. AND I got a second, long missed, pocket camera

I'm all in. Just need the bucks for it first.

I almost upgraded to a kx in may, but decided to wait til photokina.

I have a K10d, from 2007, so the upgrade is really something I look forward too.

It's the iso that does it for me, and that's the primary reason to upgrade. Indoor-low light is always a problem and since I don't think K10 does a good enough job at Iso800, it's going to be a charm

Well video is going to be fun.

Hello

I'm in the market to buy a 1.4 teleconverter for my DA* 300mm f.4.

BUT which one is best ? that is which converters work smoothest with the lens, and which gives the best picture ?

I write smoothest because, some converters doesn't allow for AF, and Sigma's doesn't work with the glass elements ???

SO, hope I didn't confuse everyone, but myself..

As I can se, there's

1. Sigma 1.4
2. Tamron 1.4
3. Tenko 1.5
4. Tokina ?

but which should I choose for my 300mm ?

What ISO was used for the respective shots? If the charts for the Kx were taken below the sensor’s base ISO it would be something of an apples to oranges comparison (as I understand it improved high ISO performance typically entails a higher sensor base ISO.)
Yes precisely and the base ISO of the KX is most likely slightly below the ISO400 while the base ISO of the K-7 is around the ISO200 so the K-7 is better at lower ISO and that's what we are talking about and of course more things come into play than base ISO, the resolution of the sensor and the algorithms behind it.
I'm not sure if they change depending the ISO...
Well even though, I find your link very useful.. And I can see what you mean..

I think I'll be happy with the higher ISO's (trying to shoot lots og birds, and indoor people and stuff. i.e not using it in studio )

As for the iso 100 problem I will only have problem in snowy conditions we a'int got that much sun i Denmark anyway.. lol

As for the K7 vs the KX, the KX sensor produce quite some moiré and demosaicing artefacts while the K-7 is cleaner and it also has more pixels, therefore with the lower ISO where the noise is low these play a part how clean the photo looks and that's why the k-7 is better.

...
hmm, interesting, do any of you know if there's some pics, where I can see this. Never thought that there could be any difference at low iso levels.

Depends, if you mean the K-X then that isn't true for the lower ISO and if you mean the K10D, the k7 is better at higher ISO.
Well, I mean, k-x has better performance at high iso (800+) than K10D and K-7 ?

I kinda assumed that they all were approx equal at low iso (100-400'ish) ?

well, been reading around the interwebs AND talking with the miss's.

So all in all I thought I could wait till after Photokina, and then some... (the stuff anounced needs to hit the stores )

So having to wait probably a year, we'we decided to buy the k-x and then sell it when they anounce a new.. HURRAY

I generally don't like the idea of buying (read: K-7) something that I already feel is a bit outdated... (I know it isn't, but knowing that I can get a better ISO performance in another pentax).

hmm, and then have two like the sound of that, lol

When do Pentax "normally" announce new cameras and the like ? Isn't there a time each year, like the car manufactures, where they announce new stuff ? ...

Well, I'm about to upgrade from K10 to K7 (another camera).

Where "another camera" could be the KX, I'm really happy with my weather seal. BUT I hate the iso-performance of my K10, (rarely go beyond ISO 400).

So higher ISO-performance means A LOT to me, but so does weather seal (and the rest).

SO, do you think there, in any distant future will be a upgrade on the ISO performance on the K7 ?
