Great news! I like Capture One and it is my main RAW converter. I also dabble with Silkypix.

Very nicely done, Darlene. Very well composed with the addition of the branch it sits on and also it is not centred, which is a good thing.

Just bought one myself and although I haven't had chance to use it much (due to the UK weather !!) I'm very pleased with it compared with my previous Sigma 17-70

Good to hear!

Nice results
I take it you're enjoying the lens as much as I am?

Thanks, Matt.

Yes, it is an excellent little lens.

I always loved the IQ from the DA16-45 f4. In fact, on a trip to Germany and France 3 years ago, 95% of my photos were taken with the FA*28-70 f2.8 and the DA16-45 f4. When I purchased the DA*16-50 f2.8, I sold my DA16-45 to my brother (and he loves it!), so I was thinking that the DA17-70 would be a great lens to have for travel and general walk about when I needed that range. After seeing some fabulous results from it, here and elsewhere, I decided to bite the bullet and get one.

Here are a few samples. Nothing special, just some quick snaps to see what the IQ was like and how well it performed.

Paul,

If you feel that the K7 is the wrong size for you, and you need better AF than the K20D, then you really have no choice.

What I am arguing with is the often not very good photographers who buy into a new system on the basis of paper specifications or forum rumours thinking it will make them better photographers.

G
Quite right George....you and JR do really have your heads screwed on properly.

I am actually looking at a D700 Nikon, for the reasons that are widely known....the Nikon FX system has no competitor in the Pentax line-up at the moment. The reported high ISO performance from the 12 MP sensor is rather good. But this is reflected in the price. I have been lurking on Nikon forums finding out which is the best 'all-round' lens for the camera and the consensus is that the 1200 pound 24-70 is the best....that makes the kit 3000 pounds Then you hear about upswings in the field curvature on the Nikon lenses, and sample variation and you begin to wonder whether the grass is greener on the other side....

Then you have the D300 v D700 battles

I know D200 and D300 owners who are very happy with their cameras, they should be for the money they've paid for them. Indeed if I was entering the DSLR market from scratch a D300 would be a camera I'd consider.

But I have a K10D I am happy with, and actually contemplating a K20 - when you read many threads from people switching systems you get the sense they are not happy with Pentax, they don't like Pentax, they want to have a go at Pentax, they have an agenda, or their technical skills suck to such an extent that another system will automatically make them better. Maybe the last category applies to me, but my main point is if people switch systems thinking their images will improve dramatically then they will be disappointed. Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Sony etc aren't perfect....some are almost but the next new model is only 12-18 months away
I couldn't agree more. Your last paragraph really hit the nail on the head.

My first outing with the K-7. Things I've found:

1. The shutter is soooo quiet compared to the K20D (a nice SshSsh noise)
Yes, it's nice!

2. The flash exposure is improved
Definitely.

3. I'm seeing less noise (i.e. I don't have to do any additional noise reduction beyond the SilkyPix normal setting), this wasn't the case on the K20D
Interesting comment. Are you shooting in DNG? Silkypix now has the PRO RC Beta version which will do K7 PEF's if you're interested. I am trialling it and it looks good.

4. I'm happy
So am I.

Apologies for the subject matter, but it's what I enjoy doing.
Excellent shots! I'd hate to get bitten by the first beetle!
