Thanks, Alan and Bill, for your replies. Should have thought of that!

I'll do some revision on your exif, just like last year, before I go to the Sunderland Air Show.
says Alan.

I like to do the same - all part of the learning curve - but couldn't find any for these, even though Bill seems to have done. Is it the exif viewer I use (Jeffrey's)? It seems a bit hit and miss, but I've always assumed the poster must have withheld the data when it doesn't show. I'd be grateful for any advice here.

Needless to say, these are wonderfully sharp images, which prompted me to want to see the exif data.

Thanks to anyone who can tell me what I'm doing wrong!

Absolutely! I really like these - so evocative of the wildness of the place. I've been there a few times, but never in this kind of mist that you have used so well to create atmosphere.

I'm minded now to post a few that I took last time we were in the area, just to show a different perspective, but they're nothing like yours! Well taken and thanks for sharing them!

Thanks for your comments, all, which are duly noted. I agree that the background is a bit intrusive in some - I need to be more aware of that (and the compositional aspect) when focusing on the main subject. Could also have gone in closer on the poppies to see what that produced. But generally pleased with the sharpness and exposure.
Thanks again,

Thanks for the positive comments, all.
I can see that the dark background wouldn't be to everyone's taste, but the original background was completely distracting and not nice, even out of focus, so it was a bit of an experiment to try and make the subject stand out better.
David and Nigel, the lens misted up within seconds of entering the hothouse (it was about 40C in there), but once that was wiped away it didn't come back. The camera body was fine though and had no condensation on it at any time, which was more than I could say for myself! Very uncomfortable!

Still in Manor Heath Park, Halifax. Lots of tropical plants in the hothouse, but not much light for photography, so tripod and longish exposures needed to produce anything much. Again, please feel free to criticize (constructively, of course!)

These are not "Wow!" photos by any means, but are posted to invite comments on anything more experienced photographers than myself think could have improved them. I suppose I'm thinking of technique rather than subject. All comments welcome! All with K-3 and Tamron 90mm. A selection of hothouse plants to follow next to complete the series.

I'd like to think my macro technique is improving, though camera settings are still a bit hit and miss. Comments welcome, for which thanks in advance. These were taken recently in Manor Heath Park, Halifax, where there are lovely gardens and hothouse with butterflies and tropical plants. I'll post a few plant images later. All K-3 with Tamron 90mm lens.

Like Springwatch - only better! Great photos and fascinating to see all the stages of development. Thanks!

Left a reply to your comment too. Must admit I would have had a chuckle if the eyes had been totally missing! Black eyes in a black cap don't exactly jump out on a dull day.
