After all it is called KS-1 which would indicate a new line of cameras?
Exactly, why are k30(+) owners complaining when this is obviously not aimed at them. There must be a higher spec model, weather sealing, twin-edials etc, in the pipeline.
Here's hoping!
I'd definitely take a look at a K50 upgrade with that sensor and some more of the K3 tech but if they don't do it. I may just get a K-S1 Instead of a compact system camera...
Again, Win Win...

Sadly you nailed it. Many saw the initial rumours and read 'entry level', and despite later specs and rewordings they still speak of it as a base-level camera. It's just different, and it's Ricoh making the call. Sure it took a few engineers away from other products, but it's just a new look for a camera - incidentally, with the K-3 specs I like most.

It feels like many outspoken early forum critics will actually be disappointed if this becomes a big hit for R-Pentax!
Lets hope it proves them wrong!
I have hope for it, I think it'll go down well in the east, which to be honest is it's market, and if they can get some good deals going with it with various lenses colours etc, it may go ok over in europe too? In the end it may end up selling more than the old "black box's"
Not so sure about the Market for it your side of the pond but you never know...
Win Win...

Shame there are no high ISO shots so that we can see how well it handles noise.
The sensor has not seen much use as of yet, so there is not too much to go on really, it would appear to be the successor to the 16Mp chip...

Save for DR, A3000 didn't do too bad, so maybe Pentax can pull one out of the hat this time around?

I asked about this one when I was looking and it seems good...
Here's the transcript...

Hi, could you tell me how old the lens is, and when you say the CE label is a bit tatty, do you mean just the label or is there any wear to the lens body itself?
Any SDM/AF problems?
Cheers Jules...

Reply:
Hi,

It really is just the CE label - which is a small sticker. There are no real marks on the lens itself. The lens is free from SDM faults, and is just as good as the other 50-135 I've owned.

The serial number is 911xxxx, it was bought new in 2009.

Best,

If that's the case then Pentax had best hurry up and put the sensor in a K3 body.
Oh Mike there you go again!
Can I buy your DA*300 in installments???
Actually I see that sensor being in a K50 replacement, sooner rather than later...

Sorry about the above they were meant to be seperated out and the text didn't come thru either, I am having some insane Firefox problems at the moment!

Anyway the K-S1 seems to be able to take a reasonable snap?

Good detail and decent dynamics???

We've strayed a bit from the 60-250mm we started with, but the message is right - the grass isn't greener on any side of the equation.

I've been very lucky with camera reliability in general. I've used a lot of cameras and a lot of Pentax cameras as well, and have only had a couple of body problems. An MV failed twice and had to be eventually retired. A K10D needed attention as it wouldn't fire, but years after the repair it's still going strong with a new owner.
I don't buy early in the production cycle, I wait for it to settle down, so hopefully miss any early glitches.
Sound advice John, I only wish I was good at heeding it, when I look at my buying history it's got early adopters syndrome written all over it!
Perhaps (To get back to the topic) the same is true of lenses?
I have no doubt there are some stunning 60-250's out there, people swear by them, I just used to swear at mine, it just didn't wow me...
