Pentax / Ricoh have made some steps in the right direction with the K3 and the 645Z, but they really need to improve and update lenses to go with these cameras. As the 3rd parties reduce support for the K mount, I personally am wondering if I should call it a day with Pentax, I love the operation and handling of the K3 and really enjoy shooting Pentax, but in relation to what I require and need now, Pentax and its offering for me personally is making me think very hard about my loyalty to the brand and question if i should sell my Pentax gear. Another aspect that is becoming apparent, is that other brands are offering what I need at a lower price and with more choice. The problem Pentax Ricoh face is that once people change system its very unlikely they will win people back if and when they do meet their needs in relation to the products they produce.
I can't imagine how the great photographers of the past managed to produce anything worth looking at. They didn't have digital, or colour, or zooms, or wide apertures and yet they STILL managed to produce fantastic images.

To say "what I require and need now" is absurd. You need an eye, that is all.
I'm lucky George I have "An Eye" on either side! (Joke!)
But I get your point, now with a 100mm ish to 400mm ish lens my eyes can zoom too...

It's all about perceptions I guess, Looking at the mirrorless market, I see that Samsung and Fuji have cottoned on to how good our 50-135mm is and made their own versions... At twice the price and weighing in at nearly a Kilo each! Now I'm sure being new and all they will be very good and faster focusing etc but Pentax were ahead of the game there and they are playing catch up...

I can't see it reaching 450 myself 400mm maybe, if it did, it wouldn't be very compact and pentaxy, (Word?) then would it? Ricoh does not seem to have strayed from the ethos... yet...
If it were 450mm and F5.6 the filter size tops out at just over 80mm, as far as I know Pentax bodies still only guarantee AF up to F5.6, so a something to 400mm with a 77mm filter size, would seem more appropriate?

Too much negativity here .....6-7 years ago we had the K10D and nothing else, about two years ago we had: K5, K30, 645D and the Q.
Now we have: K3, K5IIs, K50, K500, Q7, Q-S1, K-S1, XG-1, and the new 645Z and new lenses coming.....looks like improvement to me
CHRIST PEOPLE, STOP WHINGING!
Totally agree Michael! We have a lot to be thankful for...

Some Gossip, lifted from Dpreview...

"See this in PF website: http://www.pentaxforums.com/articles/photokina-2014/three-new-pentax-k-mount-len...

Three zoom lenses are coming, according to their roadmap they will probably: 16-85mm, 70-200mm, 100-400mm. Actually Asahi man gave the hint many times, something interesting is coming.

Asahi man wrote:

If itīs like the internal Roadmap,we will see the ca.150-450 and the 2,8 70-200 for fullframe.

70-200 is a * Lens on this map,so it will have SDM.

New Version.

But i have no information if there are any changes since i got the confirmation about the lenses.

Next wil be some optical stuff for 645.

I think ready to buy in the end of first half 2015.

The development need 2-3 years, than a production run for one year till itīs ready for the market.

Normally i will get the new stuff for testings and i will report about this again."

I am thankful, I'm lucky to have any camera at all! Exra lucky that it's a K3 and extra extra lucky that I was in a position (Eventually!) to get the original one I bought back. If Ricoh don't update the K50 anytime soon, I can always get another K3, win win win! It'a all good, well for me anyway...

I still have some reservatons as to whether the Pentax system is going if indeed anywhere, I think Japan sales are bouyant enough so that it won't fade away anytime soon, so am very thankful for that. I hope the K-S1 does well and it enables Ricoh to put back some time and effort into the enthusiast market, nowt wrong with the K3 even up against a 7DMkII. The Nikon D750 leaves me a bit cold, they made an "Action Camera" without an AF on button 7DMkII is a solid upgrade, if released...
As I have said before it's now the lenses letting Pentax down a bit, nothing wrong with screwdrive per say, I have no problem with using it where a motorised lens is not required, like a wide angle or even macro but they need a few faster focusing and longer zooms in the line up to make proper use of their flagship models capabilities...
I'm sure they will come but I do wonder when?
Not next week please because I'm all spent up!

Thankyou Peter.
The light well thats just luck, I'm lucky I'm in the lakes most weekends but the amount of times I've been and come back with nothing far outweigh the successes
You simply can't rely on the weather forecast either, there are so many microclimates around the hills that you can miss out on good weather by only one valley, it can be very frustrating at times...

Love the shot on the High Level Alan.
No drunks either, you timed it good!
Never been brave enough to try a Tripod shot up there, always seem to be undesirables in the vacinity...
