Hi Jules

Great image and I too prefer the original.

That looks like a fairly full on hike to me. I re-visited the lakes on Sunday - fancied a crack at Blea Tarn after seeing your excellent image.

You can probably guess - despite checking every weather forecast known to man before setting off - nothing but gloom and a drive that scared me half to death!

I managed to miss the turn off to Blea Tarn car park and ended up somewhere in the Himalayas on a 3 inch wide ribbon of tarmac laughingly called a road - Give me Hardknott or Wrynose Pass any day!!!!!!

It was 3pm by the time I had a quick walk around - gave up and headed north to Keswick and had a great few hours in the early evening sunshine through to dusk!

You just can not predict the weather up here, I'm very lucky where I live in that I can always go back tomorrow, and the next day and the next and...
Well you get the picture, at least you do eventually!

I go with Bill here. If the light in the first post is as you saw it, I think you were fortunate to witness that and should stick with it. Lake District light can come in all hues, some of which may well look unrealistic to anyone who wasn't there. Capturing the moment, in Bill's words, is usually my aim with landscapes, so if this was the moment .... I like it anyway.
On the other hand, as I remember from a few years ago, that climb up from Honister to Dale Head is a pig - if it had been me the colour would have been a reflection of my complexion!
Dale Head is a Pug and a Half at least!
And your correct you can get some whacky colours up here if the conditions are right...

Hi Jules, as someone myself who tries to capture the moment I think you should stick with your instinct. It's a very magical moment when you experience special light AND manage to take it home with you in both head and memory card eh?

Retained exif and a 1000 wide image would be nicer on here for viewing generally.
Hi Bill, you could be right I keep on going back to the first one!
Not intentionally stripping out the EXIF, it's not me so it must be lightroom?
I actually set it up as a 1000 across so I don't know why it's so small but I have been chastised in the past by the Tyldesley Tornado for posting too big!

Thanks for trying it out Jules. It's a bigger reduction in those colours than I was really thinking, so perhaps there is a half way house? Dull? Not at all, to me it's beautiful, some real blue back in the sky, and lovely green on the ground. Much better! But, there is the possibility that something in between, with a bit more red and magenta, could provide the ideal balance.....
Had a few goes Neil and I seem to keep on ending up back to the original I posted, I'll have a proper go tomorrow, when I can spend some time on it Neil. I can see your point, so I'd like a go at another version but still try to keep the magic there...

I prefer the original. The sunrise glow is what makes the photo a stunner.

I am deeply envious of you on so many levels - having such a wonderful place to walk, having the ability to walk it, and the ability to capture such a scene.
Ta very much for those kind words Gwyn! Struggling with the ability to walk it and weather is most definitely impeding my ability to photograph it at the moment, two weeks of Meh or Sunshine neither of which is any good, I need a decent storm!

Well as I said Neil, I left the colour pretty much alone, it was the early morning and the atmospherics caused by the haze and mist thats spreading out the early morning glow, I can try to tone it down a bit but it's pretty much as I remember it really, Mars Eh?
Here's another go:
Red channel and the magenta were not blowing but I've backed em off and think it looks really dull now, and actually not like it was when I viewed it...

Cheers Algi! Legs are still aching! It was a bit hairy in places, path on the edge of long drops (Not the other halfs favourite thing in the world)!
It was fairly orangey looking anyway from memory, it's probably all the moisture in the air that helped that as much as the time of day. I suppose I should not dislike my own Picture because of the conditions of the day, not every day can be perfect, in fact the less perfect, usually the more I like it! Joys of Pentax...

No Gary, I'm not...
However I appreciate that at the moment I am lucky to have any camera at all and I'm lucky it's a K3! I know your mileage varies!
The trick this time around is going to have to be that if I decide to buy anything else, it runs alongside my Pentax and not instead of...
Hard lesson learned and add the fact, if I do another switcheroo any time soon, I'll be looking for a new roof over my head I reckon!

Don't think Mike P has a "Full Frame" model ... yet, well not up until last week anyway!
Says the man who has had countless brands of camera body ... how many was it up until you got your K-3 back?

Personally I would quite like to try full frame but most of my photography seems to require reach more than anything so unless it's something like the 36MP sensor in the Nikon D810 where I can crop heavily and get a decent file size I'm not that interested. I did handle a Sony A7 last week which was very nice indeed and would probably go down that route along with an adapter to use my Pentax or Canon lenses.

Anyway, my mind is made up, come next years airshows I will probably still have my K-5II (although I have been talking to Chris about p/x with a new 5IIs) and the 7D will be traded for a 7D MKII.
It was 28 Mike!
29 When they update the K3!
I preferred the IIs, the images were always sharper looking to me but it was hard to quantify, you couldn't look at an image and say that was a IIs but none the less they just looked better.
Can't blame you for the 7DII one bit, I know five guys who shoot the D300s as I used to, (:blush that mostly shoot Airshows and Birds and to a man they are dumping Nikon for the Canon 7DII, they are fed up with waiting for Nikon to make another APSC "Pro" body and are just not impressed with the Nikon offering as it is FF and does not have an AF on button despite being billed as an action camera!
That lack of an AF on button was my big bug bear with the Nikon D600/610, fair enough you can re-assign the AE button but the D600 meter is so flakey outdoors, you have to re-assign another button to do that and then... it goes on and on... Eventually I just gave up and came back here.
