I like it, feels even better to me than the K5, I have small girly hands though!

I found the AF on the k-3 to be an outstanding performer in very low light. I tried it yesterday evening with the DA*16-50 on subjects that were lit by a nite lite situated about 5 meters away, and it "nailed" it everytime.

Unfortunately, it doesn't spin the SDM motor in the lens any faster...
Dead on!

More great shots of a K5II not being able to do action.

Cracking set!

All great images Jules. I'm sure the K3 will produce the goods with landscape and the right glass.

Best regards
I think it does, though I'll have to work on my technique more with the K3, I made the mistake of shooting at F11 for most of the day and there is some visible diffraction going on. I'll have to learn to focus a bit further into the subject and manipulate foreground detail more, and use F8-9 which I'll get away with, with the DA*'s. They show diffraction up a little later than the kit glass at least, I think the Diffraction thresholds about half to two thirds of a stop sooner than the K5 but you can let that ride a little...

From a quick read great stills camera as we expected, not so good for video (not my thing) and AF improvement more down to beefed up screw drive motor than focus point changes.
Bill, Re: the AF, it seems a great improvement to me, although not in speed terms with SDM's, at least. Unfortunately I have no other type of Lens to test it on I'm pretty much all SDM!
They will need to produce some shorter throw Lenses to get anywhere near the speed gains of the big two.
The AF system goes about it's business differently to Canikon and until I really know what I'm doing/know what it's doing in any given situation, I'll withhold judgment. I Have to admit that I'm not expecting miracles and don't care if it doesn't spring into action like a 51 point Nikon system as long as it works. I expect use of the colour meter in the focusing may cause some focus confusion on busy backgrounds but My Nikons used to misfocus too. I have never been convinced of Nikon or Canons Autofocus claims but agree they are better than a K5 by a margin but not as good as they say they are either
How many focus points were reviewers using, what focus hold delay did they use, was the SR on, was the focus target a viable one, AFS, AFA, AFC??? List goes on...

From Roger Cicala of Lens Rentals Fame (Look it up!)

"Glad to see the review. I'll add that yesterday I took a K5, D7100, and 70D, each armed with a 300 f/4 lens out back and took a dozen shots with each. Came back inside looked at the images for 10 minutes, and placed my K3 order immediately. It wasn't close."

At least he liked the K5 and DA*300

Nice shots jules, esp like number 3.
Ta Mike, Took the 300 with me but there was just no feathered action, sorry! Fastest thing I saw moving was the Derwentwater Ferry and I reckon even a K5 would cope with that!

I like the 3rd one in particular. I wonder whether it wd be a stronger comp if you cropped the bottom a bit, up to the water of the tiny inlet (?). Anyway, v nice.

I try to get to the Lakes every year. I am envious of those who live there. Please tell me there's a downside
Get that, I only took one quickly and edited them in about ten mins this morning, they are just to show something, thats of something with the K3 really...
The one with the dark reeds was to try to give the DR a work out and to be honest, I think it may be better then the K5...
Dunno I'll wait for the wearers of white coats on that one! (For more reasons than one!)

The lightmeter is ace, just like the one on my old Nikon F5 was with slide film, does a fantastic job of exposure in situations where there is a great variance in tonality, genius!

The downside of living in the Lakes is all the tourists!!!
It rains a lot and I mean a helluva lot!
You can't buy a house there because it's waay too expensive becuase of buy to let groups and out of towner holiday homes. If you had a spare lifetime I could go on about the downsides...
The upside is sometimes, just sometimes you get weather like last sunday.

Because David beat me to the Landscapes Punch! Out on Sunday gone all with the K3 and the 16-50 SDM. All around Derwentwater, so I hope you like a snowcapped Skiddaw! Except the Pan which was taken just off Rosthwaite Village and the Standing Stone which was in the near vicinity of the Bowder Stone...
