looking better all the time, just wish they were my pics but if I'd seen a Red Tailed Hawk near Keswick I don't think I'd have been on my own for long!

Sounds good Jules. Mine may arrive soon as I've heard that the Ltd's have started to ship.

I'm not too bothered about flash metering as I gave up using flash with Pentax some time back. Auto fill flash in bright daylight can't cut it.

I'm still not convinced it's worth more than a K5 II at the UK prices.

Best regards
Best to wait a bit, in a years time the K3 will be under eight hundred quid!
As it is for me it's worth it even though the nearly five hundred quid difference is to me a ton of money!
The K3 is already under 800 pounds in Australia Jules, a body only is 770 pounds. Less 69 if you claim back GST (sales tax) so can be as low as 701 pounds.

Best regards
Exchange rates eh?

Good review Jules. I expect the amount of cropping available
from the K-3 will be really impressive.

It is Algi, and hopefully I'll get out tomorrow to get some Landscapes with it, Sorry mike no Action unless there is a Goose take off around Derwentwater or Grasmere.

That wasn't really what I was referring to Algi, I was thinking about the point at which lenses move into the vintage/collectible arena rather than the commonly usable arena.

Pentax remain compatible for so long, actually for always as I think about it, that it's a bit of a random point to select in many ways.
Well then I reckon any lens you can use on a k5/3/30/50/500 et al
and retain all the functions sans autofocus is modern, anything else is not... Simples...

Impressive.
I agree and as long as the subject remains static, every shot will be sharp. Just keep the ISO setting low and it will be noise free as well. Roll on the 36MP APS-C K2.

Ricoh Rocks!

All good actually but the K3 is not a must have camera. The big advantage is that the K5 II/s prices will drop. NOW is the time to get one of these.

Best regards
Can't agree with you there I'm afraid, my initial findings on using the Camera are that it is a must have camera and a step change from anything else that has gone before (In Pentax land that is!). Everything is upgraded in my opinion especially the meter which to me is worth the price of admission alone, which has in turn improved flash metering, the focus while not really faster with SDM lenses tracks far better but still does the little double take on statics but I can't really see why that matters too much as it's definately more positive! The build quality is improved all over the body, everything just feels better, and the extra features regarding white balance HDR etc, all on a body that doesn't really cost much more than the K5IIs did on introduction. If only I could get out of the house for long enough to give it a good crack of the whip I'd give my report on the AF too but that might be a while I'm afraid. Also there is more detail in the Low ISO Captures at least up to ISO 800 it outstrips the K5IIs and not just by a little bit either, At higher levels it's no worse that I can see, which to me because I'm going to be biased here is also a win! I haven't done a direct comparison because my K5IIs is now sold but I know what I see.
For me at least it's a keeper and a must have, obviously thats not what everyone is going to think but for me at least it is a massive and welcome upgrade...

I'm sure you could do something similar Mike with a K5 and your 7D.
I don't think the 7D could do anywhere near that jules, especially as it's shooting RAW & Jpeg on the Pentax. If I remember correctly the D7100 is a lot worse than the K-5II
D7100 shoots a paltry six shots before it locks up, seven if you use crop mode, then it chugs, 7D is better but the K3 is a beast!
I'd like to get out and shoot the black Greyhound at midnight for ya but alas I am tied up this week and though itching like hell to, can't get out to test my new toy properly!
