Sigma 18-35/1.8 an easy choice between these two for me
The 20-40 Should really have been F2.8 throughout for the price of it to be honest but I could live with the variable aperture as it's really better than a straight F4, and even they seem to be at a premium cost from a lot of manufactureres (Nikon Canon and now Sigma, 24-105's FF I know!). The Sigma 18-35 is attractive save for it's size, I've had a play with one recently and it looked and felt as big as my 50-135, the 18-35 is beautifully made too...

I'm thinking about changing one of my K-5's for a K-5II simply for the better AF. in no rush though. I'll buy a 2nd hand one anyway when the time comes
I'll get one for my "Super Lightweight" Go everywhere ready bag thats going to live in the hall. (Was toying with the Fuji Xe-2 but the Fuji's lovely as they are don't really do anything you can't do with a K5 save for being a Rangefinder.) I'm sick of leaving home without a camera and then seeing something I'd like to shoot. I'm hoping that Ricoh/Pentax keep one of K5 models going as I think there is room in the range for it, I'd not like them to slip back to only three APSC models, I'd actually like eventually to see the K5 get the new meter to fix it's percieved flash problems making it a great second shooter for a k3 user and a more worthwhile upgrade to a K5 "classic" user. The AF is probably worth it to you alone Smeggy as I know you like to shoot at night and there is definitely a difference there. I'll likely get mine second hand too but only because even the bargain price that it is new is still too high hor me.

Good on you Jules. I have a love of the Lake District myself particularly the western side served by the Barrow in Furnace to Carlisle railway. I used to back pack across the fells from one valley to the next returning home from a different place from where I started. I found that more rewarding than staying at one place and doing circular walks. A couple of times I went to Scotland on the West Cost Line and returned on the East Coast Line.

That's a very amusing story of yours. He must have had terrible constipation that Mountaineer. I envy you that climb of Mont Blanc. I confess I did drill out the handle of my hair brush. I'm sure he would have approved.

I once went on a winter mountaineering course in the Western Highlands. The instructor was an ex Royal Marine Commando Arctic Warfare Specialist who trained the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team. Every person on the course was bigger, stronger and more experienced than me. I was really a passenger. After I returned home I had to buy a pair of trousers 2 inches smaller wait size.

Since moving here in March from Surrey I have been going out for walks to build up my fitness, hoping to undertake the sort of walks I did in my 30's and 40's (now 67).

By the way how do you attach funny faces they don't appear to work for me.

Just by using the smilies button at the bottom of the page.

The western edge of the LDNP is my least explored, I really need to get myself to Wastwater this winter! It's long overdue...

The static shots looked fine (but then so do the ones from every Pentax DSLR I have owned). Had I taken the ones he showed of aircraft in flight they would have been deleted immediately.
Not an HD vid though but your right the in flight shots were not keepers!
He uses a D800 usually I think and I would of liked to know what his opinion of the K3 was, all the same...

I'm not going to shout "Insane!" as there are obviously those who either want to print billboards or get satisfaction from capturing every last Quark.

Can lenses even keep up?

Just give me a 10MP sensor with negligable noise at ISO 1024,000,000,000,000 [/

I keep telling myself that it'll have to stop sometime but it won't will it.
I need A2 andvthe K3 does it a little better than the K5IIs did but I can't imagine what that sensors files would do to my poor i5

Thats why I said "perhaps" John.
The tech is 1-2 years away according to the link but who knows what will be around then?
Not having a dig by the way...
To double the resolution in the K3 sensor you'd need 96,000,000 little pixies, thats a lot of pixies and that may only be two or three years away from a production Camera...
