Concert Photos

Went to a concert in Ilfracombe back in October. I have not really done any PP or taken many photos since then, just been too busy which is a shame.

Emily Autumn, she is a very good Violinist/Pianist. I like her purely instrumental stuff both modern and classical.

The show is a bit weird.

I am very glad her violin was kindly painted as a focus test chart or focus target as it was rather dark.

It may have been a weird show but it produced some great images.

The bear is rather disturbing

Like these actually, some really good shots there.

I shot the entire evening at ISO1600 and F2.8 as there was very little light. Was tricky getting enough depth of field and sharpness as the 50-135 is a little soft wide open at 135mm. I had to push a few of the images a little and rebalance the colour somewhat as the coloured lighting made it really hard to balance.

I'm really impressed - not much noise and the pictures are sharp and clear The second one (Behind the Screens) is intriguing, bit spooky

Did you enjoy the concert? I never heard of Emily Autumn before but just tried youtube - sounds interesting and a bit weird - which I like (however is not that weird as some of the music I listen to, ie Einstuerzende Neubauten)

Thanks for sharing the pictures - I enjoyed them listening to her music. BTW, the bear is psychedelic

Very striking photos, but I do share Mike's concern for the bear

I saw Neubauten in a small club in Leeds in 1981.
The venue owner was going crazy because they were drilling sds drills into the walls and generaly angle grinding anything metal they could find. I saw the Birthday Party same place and of course Blixa joined up with Cave as a bad seed.

LOL, that is quite funny. Wonder if that place is still a club, where was it?

Yeah, I think I should have cropped them to 10x8 proportions as there is a lot above their heads.

I never seen EN live, but seen few clips. I can imagine the club owner frustration They're amazing using anything to produce a sound and then mixing, remixing, distorting, amplifying etc to get the final result (ie dripping water into a bucket / bowl of water in a huge empty concrete hangar or whatever it was, recording echoes). And Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - they were also great

Erm... back on topic Tyr, a little technical question (or two) - did you focus manually / prefocus or used AF? How far have you been from the scene?

I used AF the whole time, not enough light for me to MF. how far was I? Erm, about 4-10 meters or so depending where on the stage she was.

Was quite hard on the AF though as she was moving all over the place and no flash meant to action freeze or low sensitivity shots.

Hehe, no tours planned as far as I know. You'll have to wai.
