Hi Pete,

First & most basic bits of advice are:

1) Don't use anything you're not familiar with, otherwise you increase the chances of getting something wrong. Just make sure you know the kit you're using inside out, or keep everything simple (settings wise) & concentrate on capturing events as they unfold. Less time fiddling with gear equals more time taking photos.

2) Be very very prepared - presume that anything that might go wrong will go wrong & work out what you'll do in that eventuality (so, back-up camera if possible, spare memory cards, wet weather equipage, painkillers in case you get a headache, food etc. etc.)

Hope this helps,

Jonathan

Thanks for the replies - looks like I may have to do a little bit of chasing & invoicing!

Does anyone know where the responsibility lies in an instance of copyright infringement? I discovered this morning that a regional body has used a picture of mine on a promotional PDF. Are they therefore automatically culpable, or might I need to chase whoever provided them with the image (I've a fair idea, as I signed a single use permission form to let the Arts Council use a couple of pictures last year - it seems they've been a little bit lax...)?

Any help on this much appreciated,

Jonathan

Photobox get my vote too. I've always been pleased with the results, they do next day service on orders placed by 4 o' clock, they'll send you a calibration print if requested, and they don't compress your files as some other online printlabs do (snapfish, I think, though maybe someone else can confirm this?)

Hi Liam,

Thanks for that - it looks really useful, especially as it has a PC connection, which means I can use those little (high voltage) flashes for macro work on a flash bracket.

I recently measured the trigger voltage of all my flashguns - the Pentax dedicated ones (Pentax, Cobra) came in at under 10 volts, an Osram non dedicated hammerhead was about 11 volts, and another 1970s one (Popular) was 16 volts. I've used all these on digital with no problems. I've got several small flashes (guide number of about 15) which I've used for macro photography on film, but these all measure around 300 volts (including a Jessops flash which is only a couple of years old). I haven't risked using these on digital, & I don't think it's a risk I'll take...

Adrian,

Sorry if I'm just stating the obvious here (which I'm sure I am as you say you're getting correct exposures when adjusting the aperture with the thumbwheel), but the aperture ring needs to be closed down to the smallest aperture, then the button on the left of the lens (as you hold the camera) needs to be depressed so you can turn the aperture ring a bit further into the "automatic" position. Maybe try pushing this button in and ensuring the aperture ring is turned as far as it will go? On mine it sometimes seems to be turned as far as it can go, yet if I'm lacking aperture info I push the button & turn it a bit further (even though it's already in "auto", & that often brings the information back in the viewfinder.

I'm sure that's what you're already doing, but just in case...

Hi Adrian,

I regularly use an Adaptall 2 mount lens on a K100D, with great results. I get aperture information in the viewfinder most of the time, but occasionally it goes missing. I find that a little nudge of the mount (near the button for auto aperture) restores aperture info. If you don't get this information at all I'd try re-mounting the Adaptall 2 mount on the lens.

Hope this helps a bit,

Jonathan

Hi Ben,

I particularly like the "orthodoxcloseup" photo - fantastic light on the model's face.
