Thanks everyone. I am quite pleased, although to be honest I am now kind of wishing I had spent a bit more time considering lighting etc, and maybe also given the mirror a clean before starting

Still, it might not be my best photo ever, but I do think it gets the idea across reasonably well.

Earlier this week I quickly took a few photos (using my K-x and 40mm ltd lens) and created a blended image in photoshop to submit as part of an online narcolepsy awareness campaign being run by a lady in america. I was gratified when she contacted me and asked me to write a guest post in her blog about the picture. I thought I would share it with you good people here

Hi everyone,

I have been approached by somebody putting together a prospectus for a university who is interested in licensing one of my photographs for use in it.

I have been asked to quote a fee for this, but to be honest I have no experience at all in this area, and have not got the faintest clue what to ask for.

Can anybody help me at all?

Ah SDUC, later to be University of Wales, Lampeter, and now Trinity Saint Davids. I too did my degree years there, and later moved back to the area after finding London too 'much'. It's a lovely bit of the world, especially with the weather we are getting right now

Thanks for the advice everyone. The motor failed after I took the lens with me to Greece, so I'm thinking it was not a big fan of the heat

I don't have the bottle to open it up myself, so I will check out the JPS option.

Hi everyone. A couple of years ago I bought a second hand DA* 50-135mm lens, which I have enjoyed very much. Unfortunately, it has developed a problem. The auto focus now just doesn't seem to work. I believe this is probably the SDM motor failing, as I'm sure I have read is a fairly common problem with the older versions of this lens.

Can anybody help me with what I should do now? Obviously it is outside of any warranty period, so I am looking at paying to get it fixed I guess. Money is limited though, so I have to be careful.

Any recommendations for who I should go to? I live in West Wales and don't drive, so getting anywhere is problematic.

I ran the image through photoshop. I can't remember now exactly the processing I did, although it was not significantly complex. Something like: auto contrast, auto tone, then some minor curve adjustments.

I just found out a photograph I took (using my Pentax WG-3) has won an online competition run by a picture frame company link

Quite apart from being very pleased, it made me think. I have, up to now, been fairly reticent in 'getting out there' and submitting to magazines or entering competitions, but now I think it may be time to review that policy.

Do other people regularly send stuff out, either as competition entries, or to be considered for publication? If so, are there any particular thoughts or useful info you could share?
