That guy is really, really annoying. So annoying that I don't care what he says as I can't force myself to stick around to listen to it.

Welcome to the forum. What's the film camera? We're far too nosey to let you away with just "an old film camera"

That is a pretty good deal indeed. The tripod is a Slik, doesn't look like cheap rubbish.

I have fond memories of a character-building, two-week school trip to Harris when I was fourteen (twenty-five years ago now, oh my) including a sunset bonfire on Seilebost beach. Very nice images of a stunning place that I'm long overdue a trip back to visit. Thanks for posting.

People seem to want fast, ultra-sharp-wide-open primes these days and that takes a huge toll on price and weight. I'm not surprised at all by the price, though I'm sure it will come down somewhat a few months after release. I'd definitely take the FA 77mm over the new 85mm.

Tamron and Sigma (and Tokina) have all but abandoned the less common older SLR mounts as they adopt the more common, and therefore more profitable, mirrorless mounts. The major third party lens makers only really support EF and F mounts for SLRs, and even then produce very few new models, the rest being the various mirrorless mounts. The companies go where the money is.

Pentax make most lenses that most people would want to use on their cameras, though they're not cheap and new releases are few and far between.

For me, the draw to Pentax remains their design philosophy regarding both cameras and lenses - keep things small, high quality and designed for real photographers who know what they're doing and what's really important, instead of adding gimmicks and specification numbers that no-one really needs.

The latest Microsoft Edge is built on Google Chrome, why not just use the best?
Because not everybody wants Google knowing everything about them?

I use Firefox and DuckDuckGo. I hate having to have an Android phone. Can't afford an iPhone.
Do you prefer Microsoft to know everything about you?

Really, there's no difference. All such companies collect whatever data they can, that's the currency they run on. What real impact does it have? I see targeted ads in whatever browser or platform I'm using, instead of random ads for things I neither want nor need. I rarely click on those ads or have my buying tendencies swayed by them, though I do remember a fully working Pentax MX and 50/1.4 I got for €19 being down to one of those targeted ads.

I use Chrome for personal stuff and Firefox for work, which provides a good separation for me. After at least ten years of use, I could could on one hand the number of times I've had problems with Chrome not being fully compatible with a website, with the last example being the H&M website a few weeks ago, but I can't remember the time before that, it must have been years ago.

There are a lot of different old 200mm lenses around but I think most of them are not great performers, with a particular problem being purple fringing. Of course, on B&W film that's no problem and sharpness and decent contrast are the main requirements for it to be good on that medium.

I rarely use lenses that long but I have the K 200mm f/4, which is significantly better than the later M version, with the big difference being fringing.

Am I the only one who has a 90º add-on viewfinder from the film days to use when I really need to do low shooting?

Thought I'd post here a quick summary of the new products announced today.

HD DA* 16-50mm f/2.8, a long (looong) overdue replacement to the current DA*. It has a PLM motor, which as far as I'm aware can only be used in lenses in which the weight of the focusing group is very low as it's not very powerful, though very fast. Hopefully not too weak and won't lead to yet another dud 16-50mm in the lineup.

HD DFA 21mm Limited - a brand new Limited to cover full frame. Unlike it's much older brethren it'll be WR and have a built-in focus motor. Max aperture not yet known.

Other than that, a reminder about the DFA 85/1.4 and some info about the forthcoming APS-C flagship:

* It'll have a battery grip available
* It has a re-designed optical viewfinder with 1.05x magnification which they claim gives an image the same size as that in the viewfinder of the K-1.
