The 28mm is very nice indeed - excellent image quality and sharp in the centre even wide open. It's big and heavy though, which makes many setups front-heavy. I also have both versions of the Vivitar 28/2 (also both nice lenses) and it's much sharper at or near maximum aperture, which is to be expected given the price difference.

28mm is usually not a focal length I use as a walk-around, especially on full-frame, but the speed of this lens and sharpness wide open mean I can get shallow depth of field when wanted and it seemed like a suitable length for a walk in the early morning fog in Asturias, northern Spain. These are from a few weeks back.

I don't see how the exploration of the possibility of designing new film cameras impacts the development or release of new digital models. If they weren't doing this project then they would not spend that money on digital instead.

I can understand a little anxiety from K-1 owners as a follow-up camera is overdue, but it has nothing to do with the subject of this thread.

I like the colour ones more but the B&Ws have low contrast which doesn't help them any. If you bump the contrast and maybe try some simulated colour filters on them then I suspect they'll improve markedly.

Think again. Electronics and batteries have a huge environmental impact, both from their manufacture and from disposing of them when they fail or are deemed obsolete.

I think they're right on time. Given what people pay for a used Olympus Mju II, a film compact with a decent 35mm f/2.8 lens could probably be sold new for a very similar price and with a guarantee so the buyer would be safe in the knowledge that it's covered if for some reason it stops working the day after purchase.

Kodak are racing to ramp up production, Ilford are expanding their films and available formats... the future is promising for film for at least the next few years.

It needs a new landmark camera body to turn a manufacturer’s fortunes around, we have seen it with OM Systems, Nikon with their Z9, Canon with their R5 and Fujifilm making the leap into medium format. The K3.III had the potential but is APS-C which is a dwindling market and is up against the reviewers’ favourite slightly cheaper Fujifilm. (I tried one and the handling was awful - the Fuji that is).

Pentax had the lead and potential with ground breaking medium format but appears to have thrown away that opportunity by letting others muscle in, similarly the K1 was a great contender but it needs a replacement for Pentax to stay relevant.
If Pentax want to mop up some of the CaNikon people who want to stay with DSLRs and not move to mirrorless then they will need to bring out a K-1 III in very short order and it had better offer some significant improvements to give them incentive.

No new lenses and no new info on the long-in-development wide-angle fast prime or telephoto zoom.

Just a thought... I wonder whether anyone (i.e. Pentax/Ricoh) will bring out an interchangable viewfinder - put on the pentaprism when you want the authentic SLR experience, swap for the EVF when you want live view through a viewfinder. Why have just one when you can experience both with the same camera?

Steve
Mainly cost but also because it would not benefit from the smaller size and weight that a mirrorless camera potentially has.
