I am reluctantly putting up for sale my LX which I bought last year from a reputable seller I've used before. The reason is that I haven't used it at all in the months that I've had it and have been shooting much less film due to the backlog of developing and scanning I have.

The condition provided by the seller was "Pentax LX 35mm SLR Camera With FA-1 Finder, NEW SEALS, TESTED" to which I would add that it's in excellent cosmetic condition and appears to work perfectly. No sticky mirror syndrome. There's some dust in the viewfinder but that's about all I can find to complain about.

I will be over in the UK in three weeks so would be able to post it in the week commencing the 15th of May. Posting from here in Spain after Brexit is not economical as there's a high chance of considerable delays, VAT and duty being charged.

The price is Ł250 including delivery and I think that's very fair for an LX in such good condition. PM me with questions or interest.

I will post pictures in the next few days once I get a chance to take them.

I'd say that's a fair price if it's in as good a condition as they say.

Close to me there's a mint condition K 85mm f/1.8 - it looks new. It's beautiful but too expensive for me at €420.

Getting an attractive B&W image from a digital camera has a bit of art to it and some cameras do it better than others, depending more than anything on the flexibility of their jpeg engine, though of course you need to know what you're doing.

is it though?

It's a unique camera appealing to a relatively small number of users at a price that is considerably less than the alternatives in other form factors and sensor sizes (Digital MF backs or Rangefinder APS-C).

I think this will be a success for Pentax, even if it is fairly small scale, I don't think we'll see cheap entry level DSLRs from Pentax in the next few years - the direction is high end equipment and some specialisations like this.
You'd have to REALLY like monochrome to spend all that extra on a camera that only does it, but then I suppose that's who it's aimed at. For everyone else, tweaking the monochrome settings in-camera and forcing yourself to stay off colour is a much cheaper alternative (though of course you lose the benefits that the lack of colour filter array bring). Or shooting B&W film (which is the option I'd go with)

I'll be interested to see how many of them are actually produced to get an idea of how many people are genuinely able to put that kind of money down for such a camera.

Looks like the K-3 III Monochrome is real. DPR, still active a day after they were due to shut down, have posted an article. The price is a $200 premium over the original price of the standard model.

How would a close-up add-on lens change a lens's focal length?

The SR does not "see" anything through the lens, it senses camera movement and compensates. I believe the only thing it needs to know is the focal length, which it gets from the lens itself (when using a lens that communicates with the camera). The focus distance makes no difference to the way that SR works, whether it's within the lens's normal capabilities or using an add-on lens or macro tubes.

Using a reverse-adapter for close-up might be different as I think it would be a different focal length, but that's another matter.

They seem to have a very cool colour temperature.

The 24/2.8 is a nice lens, good and sharp, but is famous for flaring badly with light sources.

A Pentacon Auto 50mm f/1.8 and an 82mm CPL.

I understand that those other brands will be inferior in quality to the Tamrons, which have a good reputation. A genuine Pentax one would be better I'm sure but they are much more expensive.
