If you want an equivalent field of view to a 50mm lens on film, on a Pentax DSLR you will need a lens of between 30 and 35mm. The DAL 35mm f/2.4, DA limited 35mm f/2.8 and FA limited 31mm f/1.8 are the best options from the current line-up.

I used my K200D (weather sealed) with the WR kit lens on the beach without any problems. I got some sand in a non-sealed FA lens once and the focusing became "gritty". I fixed it by moving the focusing ring to break down the sand until it was fine again.

All very true.

If a Pentax lens is rated equal to or better than its equivalent Canikon lens then why should it be any cheaper?

Best regards
Given that a growing number of Canon users (in particular) seem to be shooting 40+ year old Takumars, it doesn't say a lot for their current lens line-up

Maybe Pentax should consider making the Ltds with M42 mounts?

John.
I suspect it's less the quality of their lenses and more the exorbitant prices, most of which is due to image stabilisation or absurd speed.

When using the kit lens I usually just set the aperture at f/8 and work in Av mode (which I use most of the time anyway), even if I have to crank the ISO more than I'd like.

If I'm out in the rain it's because I'm somewhere I want to see/photograph, not because I'm out taking pictures for the fun of it, taking arty narrow DoF shots.

The only problems I've had with mine (two copies) is that're soft wide open at 55mm, but this is normal for this lens. At f/8 it's good.

The WR kit lens is mainly useful for two things - nasty weather conditions and as a light-weight wide angle, something you won't get with old lenses due to the crop factor.

Walking through Notting Hill market yesterday I spotted three other Pentax DSLRs, all with kit lenses.

It's a very good lens. I paid around £65 for mine but sold it when I got the AF version for £90. I preferred the manual focus version to be honest and regret selling it. By the way, I don't think you'll get the AF version for that price now, prices seem to have shot up in the last year or so. I think what I paid for the MF version was reasonable.

It's definitely no macro lens.

The Lowepro lens cases have a velcro fastening that can be used to securely attach them either to straps on Lowepro bags or onto a belt. Check the height of the lenses you want to carry (with a divider to avoid scratching) and use one of those.

Of course, one will be on top of the other and this might be a more expensive option.

Photobucket is free and on the whole works well, especially with the recent revamp. I don't think there's the "social" side that flickr has, by which I mean the groups and discussions, but for simple photo storage it's good. I have hundreds upon hundreds of images there and still have plenty of space.

The advertising is off-putting though, especially as it can be the insalubrious kind.
