It should work just fine but bear in mind that super-zoom lenses (especially old ones) do not generally have the best optics due to the compromises involved in manufacturing a lens with such a high focal length range. I would expect to have to stop down the aperture quite a lot to get sharp images on a K-1.

59 quid for a broken K-r? If there's any magic involved in this listing it'll be that he manages to sell it for that.

Ditto.

If it weren't for the A 50mm f/2.8 macro that I already have, I might well have gone for this. I've found a 50mm macro to be very useful even if it only goes to 1:2.

The new telephoto lens will almost certainly be a Pentax re-badge of the recently announced Tamron 70-210mm f/4 lens. One one hand it's good to see more lenses in the line-up, on the other we're getting Tamron re-badges with a 20% (or more) or so mark-up compared to what CaNikon shooters pay for the same lens.

My favourite on digital is the fabulous DA 35mm f/2.8 macro limited. Image quality to die for and a pleasure to use.

On film I'd probably go for the M 50mm f/1.7 as it's sharp, fast, light and compact.

This lens arrived yesterday and looks mint, so I put it on the MX and took a few shots of it.

I'm glad to read that SRS resolved the problem with no complaints. I get the impression that Pentax customer care could learn a lot from them.

Some lenses produce exposures that are too bright while other lenses don't. My Pentax A 28mm f/2.8 and Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 both produce images that are too bright, so I usually have to dial in negative exposure comp to get a more even exposure. Purple fringing is due to the lens, not the camera so if you want to keep that lens then your options are to stop down to minimise PF or remove it in post.

Some lenses have very low levels of PF, so if it's something that you really dislike and a lot of your images are taken in a situation that produces it (branches against a bright sky, for instance) then you might want to look at getting a different lens.

A very good and varied selection from a productive year of photography. I envy your travel opportunities which you exploited to the full. If you get to Paris and if you like modern architecture you will find a visit to La Defense rewarding.

Many thanks everyone.

I went out to La Defense the last time I was in Paris (having not had time the first time) but the arch was almost entirely covered in scaffolding. I did get some interesting distance shots of the city from there though, especially the original Arc.
