CF = more expensive but lighter.

rigidity = better = fewer leg sections = less compact for travel

From my research there seems to be a view that a shot taken with a K5II + pp is the equal of the same shot taken with a K5IIs without pp.

I felt the UK price premium for the IIs was a con so I bought a K5II simply because it was cheaper than the K5IIs by some margin.

Are the same shots straight out of the IIs better than the II (no pp)? In my view, yes.

Just had a trawl through the Adobe site.

The versions Photoshop Elements have a limit on which cameras they will deal with and is defined by the Camera Raw Plugin:

V9 latest plugin 6.5 supports K20D, K-5, K7 (and other earlier)
v10 6.7 as V9
v11 7.2 K-30, K5ii, K5iiS

Which version of Elements do you have?
I'm using PE 10, and it happily opens my K5II RAW files using Camera Raw Plugin 6.6. Are you suggesting it shouldn't?
Have a look at: Adobe Raw Plugin which says minimum version 7.3 for a K5II and Elements 10 will only work up to v6.7

As I understand it, Adobe's plug-in's are cumulative, for example V1.0 supports cameras A, B, and C. V1.1 supports D, E, and F as well as A, B, and C...

It would seem a bit daft for their latest version to strip out support for previous cameras just so that the latest update supports only the K-30, K5ii, and K5iiS.
There was a word missing from the V11 line ...
v11 7.2 adds K-30, K5ii, K5iiS

The full compatibility list has to be work between teh link above and Raw/Apps compatibility list.
Thanks. I looked at the Adobe site, and they are wrong.

Odd really as it's their product, but, as said, PE10 with Camera Raw 6.6 is very happy with the RAW output from my K5II.

I use an old blackberry phone Miss Smeggy donated to me with a free GPS app on it. Get home load the GPX file into Lightroom and I can then GPS tag ANY camera I've been using.
What do you do exactly? Whats the app? Is it something peculiar to Blackberrys?

I'd try another card, but to be honest it looks like either a camera fault or something wrong with it's settings. How's your white balance setting? Have you played around with any of the effect options?

Try resetting the camera to factory defaults. p296 of your manual.

That said, how do the shots appear on the camera rear screen before you remove the card? If ok, then it points to a problem with something in the process (software or hardware) that you're using to transfer the shots from the card to your PC, or when you pp the shots after they've been transferred.

I also notice that you had something similar earlier in the year, but you never said how that was resolved.

When I say similar, you posted a shot of a telephone box that (a) had a slight colour cast, and (b) displayed odd coloured pixels down the right hand side.

A battery charger that'll also work in the car? Hahnel do one, the UniPal.

That said, given the distance vs. time, will you actually have time for any photography

I did New Zealand a few years ago, over 5 weeks, and barely scrapped the surface at around 100 miles/day, and you'll need to average 3-4 times that.

The K30 has a good rep, so K30 + cash towards a long lens makes sense.

Light(er), compact, but expensive. Enjoy
