This is how one of my photos taken on my Lexar card came out.

This is a different card where all of my photos came out like this. Also they cannot be uploaded onto Elements only Picasa, I am on a trip to Yorkshire next week so I hope its not the camera!
Any thoughts appreciated thanks.

I'd try another card, but to be honest it looks like either a camera fault or something wrong with it's settings. How's your white balance setting? Have you played around with any of the effect options?

Try resetting the camera to factory defaults. p296 of your manual.

That said, how do the shots appear on the camera rear screen before you remove the card? If ok, then it points to a problem with something in the process (software or hardware) that you're using to transfer the shots from the card to your PC, or when you pp the shots after they've been transferred.

I also notice that you had something similar earlier in the year, but you never said how that was resolved.

When I say similar, you posted a shot of a telephone box that (a) had a slight colour cast, and (b) displayed odd coloured pixels down the right hand side.

I don't think it's a fault with the card - it's more likely that a corrupt card would have image pixellation, or similar, rather than colour issues. That leads me to guess that there is a problem with the sensor, although this will be either confirmed (or eliminated) by JOHNX's suggestion of resetting to the factory defaults.

Edit: I just noticed the pink "fringing" on the right-hand side of each image. Since the image sensor is typically made up of 3 layers (red, green, blue), I'm wondering if a hard jolt of some sort has caused these layers to fall out of sync, in the same way that if you disturb the layers of the LCD in a digital clock/watch, the display goes all "funny"??...

Johnx my wb is manual 1 .The shots on the rear screen look fine.
Picasa accepts file transfer but they come out as above.
Elements say "the file is damaged or is in a format that cannot be included in Elements".
The purple fringing SRS told me was the 18-135 wr lens and most of my other lenses because my new cameras sensor is so much more sensitive than my K7 so I have to crop most of my photos.
I have formatted my Lexar card and still have the problem.
In Picasa the thumbnail pictures look fine!!
Camera has never been dropped.
Thanks both of you, I appreciate your help.

Can't tell anything from the JPGs as you've stripped the EXIF information.
Can you post a straight-from-card version of the PEF/DNG/JPG?

Do take a raw shot as well please - that should help to narrow down where this is happening.

99.99% certain it is NOT card related.

Try taking a few images of plain colours such as a White Wall, a Coloured Wall, a fairly plain bed sheet, then find something in each of Red, Green, Blue, Yellow and Dark Grey/Black. Record them all in RAW + JPG (lowish resolution & high compression).

Check to see if Raw and JPG are similar and if they are just add them here, whilst ensuring EXIF is maintained or host them in a location where they can be pulled off with EXIF intact.

I'd reset the camera back to factory defaults

You haven't stated what format the photos are being taken in, ie PEF, DNG or jpeg so any help being offered can only be a best guess!
Given the shots on the rear screen look fine, it could be a PEF being loaded into a software program that doesn't support the K-7 PEF's.
Change to DNG's and all should be well. Not sure how up-to-date Picasa is with PEF's. The Pentax software supplied with the camera should resolve it.

JPEG's should be fine and should be viewable without modification in any reasonably recent file viewer. Until you get compatible software develop the raw files in camera to jpeg's.

Have a look back at the previous thread where you had a similar query - here's a link to it: link

Matt from SRS has looked at the photos, thinks it IS a sensor issue [the purple line down the side of the photos has got bigger] so camera is off to hospital and they are lending me a K7.
So I will know if its camera, or something else???!!!
Thank you all for taking the time to comment I do appreciate it!

John I will check I may have inadvertently changed to pef instead of DNG.Thanks.

Just had a trawl through the Adobe site.

The versions Photoshop Elements have a limit on which cameras they will deal with and is defined by the Camera Raw Plugin:

V9 latest plugin 6.5 supports K20D, K-5, K7 (and other earlier)
v10 6.7 as V9
v11 7.2 K-30, K5ii, K5iiS

Which version of Elements do you have?

My sister-in-law had a similar problem with her Q and we tracked it down to the front dial being inadvertently set to cross-processing.

The first thing I would do with any camera fault is check all the settings. Then reset to factory defaults. Then try another card. Then send for repair if it's still necessary.
Best regards, John

If the pictures look fine on the camera's screen (you said above, "The shots on the rear screen look fine") - that would not be possible with a faulty sensor. From what you say it only goes wrong when you import the raws into a program that doesn't support the actual files. The purple line down the edge is a red (err should that be purple) herring! Again a software issue. I've experienced it myself trying old software (pefs bad, jpegs fine) and easily solved with current software.

Have you tried to 'develop' a raw in the camera yet? If so was it still bad?
Have you tried the camera's own program or a recent version of Elements or similar? Relying on a freebie program may not always be the best option!

I'm using PE 10, and it happily opens my K5II RAW files using Camera Raw Plugin 6.6. Are you suggesting it shouldn't?

As I understand it, Adobe's plug-in's are cumulative, for example V1.0 supports cameras A, B, and C. V1.1 supports D, E, and F as well as A, B, and C...

It would seem a bit daft for their latest version to strip out support for previous cameras just so that the latest update supports only the K-30, K5ii, and K5iiS.
