I doubt it's any better than the DA*300 unless the faster aperture is of any advantage to you. I have both and had some good results with butterflies and dragonflies with the DA*300.

The Tamron 90mm Di works well with the Tamron 1.4x TC giving 135mm and losing 1 stop of light, you retain the minimum focus distence. From experience the Tamron 70-300 LD Di zoom does a cracking job but only gives 1:2 magnification and probably never reaches the IQ of the 90mm, it allows you more distance between yourself and the subject though which can be very handy.

This looks interesting if the 14mm f/2.8 is anything to go by the IQ should be pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the 8mm fisheye I bought and still use:
