Hi Andrew.

Thanks for the comment, yeah the sky doesn't do anything for the images, I chose to crop it out where I thought I could get away with it. I decided to take just the one lens and it was a difficult choice, I had to travel light as my time was limited. I think if it had been raining harder I woul have opted for the DA*16-50 and it would have allowed me a tighted crop on some of the compositions. Better luck next time maybe.

Regards,

John

Taken Monday on a short visit to Ingleton Falls, overcast with light rain. K20D + Sigma 10-20, there were times when I wished I'd taken the DA*16-50. C & C welcome.

Probably a card fault. You could try to recover them with Sandisk Rescue Pro

I'd recommend the DA*300 too, you can always fit a rear converter to give you 420mm (1.4x) or 450mm (1.5x) or even 510mm (1.7x) if you buy the early Kenko Teleplus SHQ or Tamron 1.4x you'll even retain SDM focus.

This was the DA*300 with 1.5x Kenko SHQ:

Have succeeded. 645 to K mount.

I took the M42mm route.

Johnwhit kindly donated the 645 lens cap. Thanks John.

You're very welcome. You really do need a quality screwdriver to get out those screws, Phillips head (not posidrive). I think the size is "00" or "000", the lettering has worn off mine. They are tight and rightly so, I'm not sure if they use a form of locking compound but I think they're just made to very fine tolerences.

That is odd. I don't find A series lenses behave any differently to the later autofocus ones on mine
Same here, even the 8mm Samyang behaves very well, considering it's a fisheye.

[I have used manual cameras (or cameras in manual mode) for years. If they had been as far off with the metering as my K20D is with older glass I would have been quite upset. Slides come in at about 25p a picture... I used my ME Super (in manual) with Kodachrome 64 until I literally wore the camera out. I hoped that fitting the katzeye screen might improve matters but it didn't, and I also find that every manual lens behaves slightly differently. The Vivitar 28mm close focus (Komine) lens is, for example, badly out at all apertures.

Best wishes, Kris.
The only non A lenses I have are genuine Pentax "K" & "M" series, I find they consistently underexpose with my K20D and K10D, it's just my experience, other peoples mileage may differ.

John

One last thing: metering with M series lenses tends to be unreliable compared to the A series. For static shots this isn't a problem (shoot, check histogram, adjust, reshoot...) but for grab shots etc. it is a pain.

Best wishes, Kris.
I found this to be true with the K10D and K20D, what I tend to do is meter the scene at wide open aperture in manual (M), then as I stop down to the taking aperture I just adjust the shutter speed accordingly. It's something that you get used to when you've worked with manual only cameras for years.

Portrait: FA*85 or DA70 Ltd
Landscape: Sigma 10-20 EX or DA*16-50 if it's raining

Wonderful, I prefer the tonal range of this one, but it's a tough choice.
