Nobody is glossing over past problems, but this is a thread about the new lens and the SDM issue has been discussed in depth already. All I am suggesting is that an SDM label on a new lens wouldn't put me off buying it as it's likely totally unrelated to the legacy issues.

I was really meaning the new motors fitted to new lenses such as the 50mm f/1.4, which are totally different to the original SDM designs.

There are new motors, still called SDM, but not related to the original motors. Things move on, just like SMC lens coatings would have changed over the years.

A great pose and some gorgeous light, which totally clinches the shot.

The link for entering this week's competition: https://www.pentaxuser.com/competitions/weekly--592---the-canal-age-825

A few years ago Sue and I spent a long time exploring in use and disused canals. There's a lot to photograph, so hopefully this will give everyone a good chance to have some good images already. If not, then there are plenty of canals around to go and make some new images.

Hope you enjoy the competition!

I'm looking forward to seeing this lens. It should be high quality and a bit more compact than the f/2.8 version; as well as, hopefully, costing a bit less.

Yes …. but how much have K1 users got spare ?
I've just had some 18" x 12" prints made from the K-1 and the quality and detail is just staggering, even with the closest examination. For these, all the resolution counted, but for web then a 12 MP camera would be doing just fine.

Glad it worked out. A full size JPEG would have given your RAW captures a run for their money as well.....

Just a thought though. Whatever we shoot, perhaps use the maximum resolution anyway, just in case one of the shots happens to be less mundane than we anticipated, maybe even a winning shot.
