I've always enjoyed the look of grain, but sharp grain such as from Kodak Tri-X dveloped in an acutance developer. It's a bit of an art form in itself, with so many options of film and developer combinations, and then of course different dilutions and temperatures, all refining the look.

With digital, the effects can be simulated and Fuji in particular offer upfront various JPEG film settings. IR is a special case in that the film version is very grainy, but with digital we have the choice of adding noise or creating something new and having noise/grain free IR.

But IMHO noise can be used to advantage and a sharp, noisy picture is better than a mushy noise free one.

There's an announcement re this - there was a server change so there may well have been an interruption. I didn't register your query initially as "Pentax Forums" is a USA site, as opposed to us here who are "Pentax User".

I'm looking forward to see what develops!

Just a couple of points re what Flan mentioned. There isn't a 1MB limit on images, just the suggestion that images in the forum should be no bigger than 1000 pixels on the longest side. This is to help the forum threads load quicker. Pentax lens users are very welcome, they are just as much Pentax Users regaredless of how they use them. Hope that helps!

The lens arrived safely today (Sunday) in a box all sealed so brand new in every respect. Nice bayonet fit petal lens hood plus lens case all included.

I've ordered one, at that price it's worth snapping one up.

I did a review of the MX-1 and in particular its very fine lens here: https://www.pentaxuser.com/review/smc-pentax-mx-1-6-24mm-f-1-8-2-5-vintage-lens-...

Sue and I have a Pentax MX-1 each, hers is silver, mine is black. For sheer versatility and quality it is very hard to beat, despite having "only" 12MP. It is a shame that Pentax never followed the model up. It is till in demand and good used samples can be quite expensive as a result.

Apart from anything else, the operation and menus are pure Pentax, so using the MX-1 alongside Pentax DSLRs is a seamless experience.

This one is well in the shadows with only two entries so far. Sue and I have our plans made to make that at least four images, but I thought a reminder might be useful so we can have more of a challenge for our Esteemed Judge!

Top menu, go Gallery>Competitions>Monthly, and don't forget images must be shot in September 2023, so just a couple of days to go.....

No, the lens is not an autofocus lens.
