Well I went down to CW Chelmsford again and they have re-stocked and had one Pentax K7 with weather proof 18-55 lens. The only other Pentax they had was one compact.

I must say it was a very nice little camera and I really liked its small size and lightness. The focusing seemed pretty speedy. I might take down a memory card and take a few shots to see how they come out.

I might even consider buying one if they get a lot cheaper.

Hi Dan, I went in on Saturday but didn't see anything at all ! I'll check next week maybe they will get a K7 in and I'll have a play.

If I'd been able to hold on a bit longer with my Pentax stuff I think the K7 would have stopped me switching systems. It has everything I want but without the bulk. I needed to replace the DS about a year ago so had to make a decision.

Unfortunately now I've sold all the Pentax bits ( except LX & MX ) it would probably be too costly to switch back unless I could get a K7 for say £500, well you never know.

I suppose I could use the K7 as my holiday camera with a 17-70 lens and 43mm and use the Nikon for sports & macro ?

There a number of things that I miss about Pentax quite important things like colour balance and small size and the lenses 135mm F2.8, 43mm F1.9 and the 100mm macro and the af360 flash.

I paid my weekly visit to Camera World in Chelmsford having a look at the 2nd hand gear as usual, quite a few bits there, sign of the times maybe. They had a few 2nd hand Pentax items including a 14mm prime and what I think was a bigma 150-500mm Sigma zoom ( about £350 ) if anyone is interested.

Anyway I had a look inside ( I don't always ) and I couldn't find any new Pentax gear at all. I know someone on this forum or maybe DP review was saying that Camera World weren't very happy with the new level of repair service.

Does this mean they have dropped Pentax completley ?

I was hoping to have a look at a K7 just to see how it feels. I'll ask next week if I get there.

[quote:3496ace15f="Mannesty"]I can't think of a good reason to use film anymore.
You are right, but:

a) I find it fun and enjoy using film.
b) Digital makes me lazy, film makes me think.
c) The MX and LX are such lovely pieces of equipment I get pleasure just from the use of them.

None of these reasons are compelling enough that I would argue for film over digital, after all I take 100x more digital photos than film, but they are enough that I keep taking a few.
Me too, maybe it's the MX & LX they just make you want to use them. Film was good enough for me for 30 years so I still like to take slides on holiday and at Christmas. The MX or LX in their ERC cases make a nice compact holiday camera with a 50mm lens.
even more compact with a 40mm pancake lens[/quote]I found the 40mm too hard to focus with, I prefer a 50 or 55mm. I got used to a 55mm as previous SLR was a Fufica ST705 that had a 55mm f1.8, cracking lens.

I have a couple of screens that I bought for my DS from China but never fitted. If I can find them and anyone wants them they can have them but only one each. I don't know what other cameras they might fit.

I had the one before the DI version and the DS hated it. It was a very nice lens mechanically and very sharp but caused the sensor a huge amount of blue / purple fringing.

I ended up with the Pentax FA100 instead which was probably the best lens I've ever had and had none of the issues the Tamron displayed.

Dear Nellie you could do what I did and buy an LX. The standard viewfinder that comes with it the FA1 has diopter adjustment from zero to -1.5 as far as I can remember. There is also an FA1W finder that does about -3 to plus 1 I think. I have both but as my eyes aren't as bad as I thought I might get rid of the FA1W.
If you fancy selling the FA-1W let me know...
Kris it was very expensive about £85 a couple of months ago. Make me an offer if you're interested but best to do it by PM please, thanks John.
