Hi All,

Quick pic of my S1a & Super-Takumar 55/1.8 which appears to have the aperture running the wrong way to my Super-Takumar 28/3.5.

Shot with a K-5, DA17-70 and the built in flash:

Hi John,

I checked it several times, quick pic trying to show the name and aperture ring here (attached to the S1a I bought it with):

Incidentally shot with a K-5, DA17-70 and the built in flash, not bad for a quick shot of a highly reflective subject.

Hi All,

I've recently acquird some M42 lenses and surprised to find the apertures run in different directions, the lenses are:

Apertures as described from behind the camera.
Super-Takumar 28/3.5 - 16...3.5
Super-Takumar 55/1.8 - 3.5...16
SMC Takumar 135/3.5 - 22...3.5

Why are the Super-Takumars different to each other?

John.

Great shots. Developing B&W is reasonably easy and you only really need a dev tank, thermometer, a couple of measures, a changing bag, washing up bowl and the chemicals. With my fist roll I had trepidation when opening the tank at the end, but I had negatives and couldn't quite believe it.

Probably because it mainly CaNikon users who can't work out how to use their gear

I only read the BJP now, which hardy mentions gear at all unless it's a review.

No problem. I found the link from the page source and added it as link (copy the Picasa link from the address bar, click the 'Link' button and paste it into the pop-up).

Flickr allows you to copy a 'BBcode' construct that you can paste between the [img] tags to link to a specific image, I don't know if Picasa does this.

Nice camera!

In many ways, using film is easier than digital, depending on the camera used. No need to worry about batteries dying, either use a mechanical camera or carry spare batteries (that may last for months). No trouble having to backup the images (OK my slides and negs aren't organised - but I know where they all are).

Having recently 'gone digital' with a K-5, which is an amazing camera, I find myself having to work out how to backup GBs of photos (currently using the SD card they were captured on, as I think they're more reliable than a hard disc or DVD-RW).

I sometimes wonder how I managed with film, just 36 exposures (OK maybe 39 if you pushed it), not knowing what you'd got until days later and no 'happy feeling' that you at least have something and haven't screwed-up the basics.

I got an S1a a few weeks ago (still don't know if it works properly), having loaded a 36exp film into it, I'm still only on number 21. I guess I just can't justify shooting it until I'm completely happy with everything, a far cry from digital. Once I'm happy it works with the Super-Takumar 55/1.8 it came with, I'll be trying my Optomax 35/2.8...

At least I think the top/bottom plates are metal, having compared it to my S1a I'm not sure now!
