Ok, I think it defininatively says I really don't know what I'm doing!

This is at f2.8 same lens shutter speed of 1000 as was using Av so should be no impact from shake.. Focusing on the front petal. Is this more the sort of thing to use?

Hi,

This is a snap shot I took this morning and I have managed to convince myself today and yesterday that my focusing is somewhat out. Chances are it's just me being stupid and seeing things when there is nothing to see. I am not familiar with what back or front focusing looks like.
I picked this as it is a fairly busy view. K5 with DA* 16-50 at f11 ISO 100 and 1/100 shutter speed.

I've never been sure about AF adjustment. I wear glasses and therefore I don't really trust my focus with my eyes. I'm not really sure what I'd be looking for with it.

Yep that's why I'm posting them! Get tips to help improve my people shots!! I'm mainly outdoors and landscapy really and am not used to indoor or people. The backlit and backgrounds are valid points, The problem comes with a tried partner and a tired baby! Get them when I can! I have probably gone too cool after the comments on the previous ones mentioned that they were maybe too warm.......

I will admit to trying the wider aperture to see the difference, the DOF wide open on this lens is really surprising to me given I'm used to the kit lenses. A few shots have been lost due to the focus point being a little off to what I was wanting and the corresponding DOF making it feel a little "lopsided"?

Trying again. Tried to keep colors as natural as possible.

Taken with the DA* 50-135 f6.4 at ISO 800. I use Av generally.

I don't have a flash for digital and it's just been so dark and miserable that the available natural light has been struggling......

I've neglected the digital over the last year, more or less only using film. There is a look with cheap film and expensive film that is unique. However I am probably going to concentrate on getting my skills with the DSLRs up for a while. Digital has the convenience factor and ability to see immediately what I've done wrong!!

I've got shots I like from both, the main difference I sometimes find is with older film bodies like the Spotmatic F, it's just so nice to hold and use and for street shooting I kind of feel it gives a different atmosphere off to people using an old film camera than a modern DSLR with a big zoom lens! But as always that's just my personal perception!!

I have just taken a step up in glass for my K5 so we will see how that impacts on me after only using the WR kit lenses on it. Oh, and another thing (with Pentax definately) is the weather sealing, I have had my K200d out and shooting in torrential downpours very happily where my film cameras could not go.... Haven't had the K5 out in such bad weather yet but it's possibly the main reason I first bought into the Pentax system.

I think that with my recent aquisitions of better lenses, AF speed certainly has become something of a minor issue. I'm an indifferent amateur in skills so would really only notice that. Otherwise the K5 is great for me. With my daughter I've really noticed slow AF with the DA* 50-135, gets there but takes a while to lock on, esp in the poor light I've been working with. I'm considering the K5ii but am finding peoples opinions very interesting about the relatives merits of upgrading or not.
I am more concerned with focus accuracy than with focus speed. On the other forum one of our countymen insists that the problem lies with the lenses rather than the camera body. Granted the big DA* zooms are great, but the attraction of Pentax for me lies with the wonderfully small DA Ltds of which I have four ( 15,21, 35 and 70mm). I love their sharpness and the way they complement the camera without adding unduly to the overall weight.
I play a lot with old film cameras and I would love a proper viewfiner to focus more efficiently on digital with old primes. I got the K5 for high ISO and weather sealing (very important to me and why I got my first DSLR, the K200d). I've just started having the feeling that quite a few shots haven't been spot on recently in focus. I'm afraid I've come to the feeling that a DSLR is big and heavy and thus a little extra is not so much of a problem for me!! I'm not sure about AF probelms being in the lenses as unless there is a major problem with assembly it's the camera that has the sensors and the basic motor...

The DA* 50 -135 arrived safe and sound this morning and just as described!

Cheers!

(Have bought from this gentleman twice and both transactions have been very good and the lenses and descriptions perfect).
