I use my DA18-55 and Tamron 70-300 when it rains - neither is weather sealed, but at the same time I didn't pay much for either so it wouldn't be the end of the world if they did get ruined (I'd be a lot more upset to lose the FA77 for instance!).

As it happens though neither has come to any harm, despite me continuing to shoot in torrential conditions where rain has run in rivers over the camera. I do try and keep them pointing down so the lens mount isn't directly exposed (just lifting up to shoot) and I never return them to the camera bag wet - I wait until I get back to the car then towel them down before leaving them out to dry properly at their own pace.

So far so good and some of my favourite shots have been in downpours when other snappers have gone running for cover.

Have you ever written questions for Blind Date Hefty?
My cover has been blown!

I'm still undecided about keeping my new LX or not (I was giving up 35mm for New Year and just sticking to digital and MF supposedly), but if I do then I'm going to want one of those FF-1 finders for it. How much do you want for yours Kris?

So the question is; if you could only keep one of the three which would it be and why?

While shoe polish does the trick I find it's a bit messy to work with. I'd recommend saddle soap (available from tackle suppliers) which brings leather back to life, leaves less crud on your hands / work surfaces and has a nice soapy smell too.

don't rule out using a linear polariser - they work on Pentax DSLRs.
Of course they work but they screw up the metering, don't know if they effect autofocus.
They work fine with the K10D - can't speak for other cameras though...

I went for the bottom option as I very rarely show my photos to others (although I have entered the odd compo on this site). I don't think the photos I take for eBay / AutoTrader / etc count although I suppose they do earn me money in a way...

Nah, I'll stick with the bottom one. Amateur and proud of it!

Well the consensus seems to be to keep it then - which is where I think I was headed anyway. Might just leave it in the box another week though in case I change my mind again...

Hefty,
Also legalised theft, are you going to use it.
There lies my dilemma.

I did want an LX but decided I would wait until I could find one for around £200, hence I was looking at well-used examples and having the odd sneaky bid on eBay which I never won. I never expected my £200 to get me a brand new example - it was all down to a chance encounter with its owner last week.

So do I keep it, in the knowledge that I'm unlikely ever to stumble over a new one again?

Or do I put it on eBay knowing it'll fetch 2-3 times what I paid for it, buy a well used one as originally intended and pocket the difference?

I've put batteries in it (but no film - I couldn't bring myself to remove the plastic transport cover on the pressure plate) and checked it all works on a dry run basis and it seems fine. The winder whirs around but comes up with the error LED because it knows there's no film in there - I'm sure that'll be fine too though.

What to do, what to do..?

That's a fantastic deal! I bought a brand new LX / Winder / FA-1 set this week (it's actually circa 1995 but had been bought as a back up and never taken out of the box) for a stunning £200, but I think you've probably trumped my bargain there!

They say things come in threes so I'm waiting for Clarky to jump in and tell us he bought one of the special edition gold ones this week for £100 and they threw in a free FA*200 Macro...
