A 2x converter will add 2 stops (a 1.4x will add 1 stop, a 1.7x will add 1.5 stops). As your Sigma has a maximum aperture of f/5.6 this will effectively become f/11 wide open - so 1/30 or slower sounds about right.

To use a teleconverter you really need to start off with a fast lens (say, f/2.8 or wider) - on a slower zoom you'll always struggle unless the light's *really* bright.

Have I missed anything exciting in my absence?
John Riley declared his love for all things Canon, George was made a peace ambassador by the UN and Mike-P sold all his lenses to buy a single 18-250 superzoom.

Other than that nah, it's all been quite quiet around here...

Nice to see you back anyway!

If you go to Shop -> Price List from the links above you'll find them all on offer there. The hood you're after is £26.99 but you'll get a 10% discount if you take out membership of Pentax User (for which you also get a nice glossy quarterly magazine).

Welcome to the forum.

These were designed for use with 35mm cameras so the measurements are a bit off with digital (you only tend to get the central portion of the slide). Having said that you'd probably get around £10 for it on eBay.

For me that falls into the grey area of sitting between "too good to dump" and "too much hassle to eBay" - those items tend to go to the charity shop or car boot sale (depending on my mood and the time of year).

I've got a Seagull and it corrects the image so that you see it the "right" way around.

It's actually quite a nice little piece of kit except for the plastic adapter that actually clips over the eyepiece - mine's never broken but it's always felt a bit fragile. I'd imagine the genuine Pentax one would be a much better fitment.

I think Hefty or John or someone else can tell you more about it.
I've never owned any of the f/1.2 versions (K or A) so I can't be any help on this unfortunately...

Hefty a thought occur to me, camera lenses are designed to be objectives so how can they not be an objective if they aren't in use or is it really that strict?
I don't think it's all that strict - few things in the English language are (and it's that flexibility that has allowed it to dominate other languages over the years).

Maybe a lens is merely a lens when it's first created and when it takes its first photo it passes a right of passage to become a fully fledged objective?

I picked up another camera kit this week (LX+Winder+Grip+Strap+Screens, M35-70/2.8-3.5, A70-210/4, M28/2.8, M50/1.4, M85/2, M100/4 Macro plus original hoods, cases and other bits). Amongst it all was something I've never seen before and Google isn't helping for once - so has anyone here ever come across one of these?

It's a black leather soft case and was holding the A70-210 (just barely). It's thicker - better padded - than most I've seen before but the bit that intrigued me was the "Pentax Club" embossed on the outside.

Anybody seen one of these before or know anything about them? Most of the kit is going straight on eBay next week but I may offer this case here on the forum if there are any collectors looking for one...

Isn't the Objective the front "glass" in the lens and the Subjective the rear "glass"?
Or have I mis-remembered my physics lessons from all those years ago?
Maybe, although I must admit I've never heard "subjective" used in relation to camera lenses before. It wouldn't be the first time I've been proved wrong though!

That's a similar definition then - the objective is the lens that "receives the rays from the object", so in other words the lens that's currently in use.

Languages change over the years though so who's to say what the real meanings are? As long as we all understand each other then there are bigger things to worry about imho.
