I won't pretend I read everything on there but I did my usual "site test" of moving between pages and making sure all the random links I tried worked - I'm pleased to report it passed this part of the test with flying colours!

Talking of colours, I like the overall scheme - very professional looking and easy to read. The menu system is also well thought out and easy to navigate. Everything loads quickly and without fuss so top marks there too.

My only (minor) complaint is the under-utilisation of ALT tags on your pictures. For example; on the home page when you hover over the main picture the only thing that comes up is the word "Header". The contents of ALT tags will turn up in search engines just like any other text and so you should use them to your advantage.

For instance, replacing the word "Header" with something like "A picture of the outside of The Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research located in Warnemünde and which is is an independent research institution specializing in interdisciplinary study of coastal oceans and marginal seas" will not only help your search ratings by doubling up on search terms, but will also be of more assistance to those using text-only browsers.

Other than that minor point though good stuff!

After handling the K-m for the first time last week I have to say I thought it was a great little camera. It may not have all the whistles and bells of its larger (and more expensive) siblings but that misses the point; it's a solidly built, lightweight carry-anywhere SLR that's capable of taking great pictures. Nothing wrong with that!

Stefan, Thanks for that link, not seen anything like that before.....interesting stuff.

All - this will be my first Pentax (previously a Canon FD user :roll - any "common faults" I should be looking out for?

Thanks,

Mark.
By and large I think the K10D has proved to be highly reliable and virtually indestructable. The only common-ish problem that springs to mind is that the sensor can be misaligned causing back/frontfocus problems - this can be a DIY fix by using a "secret" debug menu built into the camera. Worry about that if and when it crops up though.

Otherwise no, there's nothing specific to look out for, it should just work.

Yes, it's the SR. Perfectly normal - all K20D's (and K10D's) do the same thing.

Just go to the main Gallery ( ^^ link above ^^ ) and click on the green "Upload A Photo" icon near the top.

Once it's in the main Gallery it'll show in your personal gallery when people click on your name.

thanks for the heads up hefty, my parents live near Aylesbury so we shall have to see what can be found.
If they get The Bucks Herald they've probably already seen it (there was a pic of a K200D on the top of the front page so it's obviously a slow news week ), I think they need the entry form that's actually printed in this week's paper though.

I've no interest in what the "competitors" may launch - my lenses won't work properly on them so they hold no appeal whatsoever.

I'll keep using my K10D 'til it breaks and then buy the best available camera at that time with a K-mount, whatever that may be...

I've never seen a camera sold in an opticians before but it does make sense to me; my local independent optician (where I get my glasses from) is a Zeiss dealer and does hold stocks of spotting scopes and binos in addition to spectacles. It'd be nice if he did camera gear too
