While I'm sure it's technically possible it seems an odd thing to want to do, I'm genuinely curious as to why you'd want to carry out such a conversion and what benefits it would bring?

I'd agree with your thinking. I'm usually a "prime person" but I don't own any below 24mm simply because the DA12-24 is so good at what it does - I've not tried a 17-70 but it sounds like you've reached the same conclusion about it.

IQ at f/11 will be almost indistinguishable regardless of lens used so a lot of it boils down to distortion and most older 24mm's (in my experience) have greater distortion than modern zooms at the same focal length.

I had one in a job lot of lenses that were sold on. It was only with me for the week but I gave it a good testing and found it to be quite reasonable but not spectacular.

To be honest I've had a few 24/28mm lenses pass through my hands now and none of the third party ones have been as good as the genuine Pentax articles. I think you may well end up with a Pentax so it could save you money and hassle in the long run if you just bite the bullet and buy one now.

I used the same trick with the velcro ties - you'd barely get a week go past when somebody didn't try to grab you round the throat so I can see why it put him off straps

It's a long time ago you mention that Hefty, it was about the neckstrap of the camera and that you never used it since someone can pull you out of balance very easily by that.
Went about theft or something down that line.
Then there's another ex-doorman in our midst - the sort of places I worked at I'd have never have dreamed of taking a camera with me...

Danny's right, the Metz is the highest powered P-TTL flash but in the real world I doubt you'd notice that much difference between a gun with a GN of 54 and one with a GN of 58 - both are pretty powerful!

What is it that you need so much light for? If it's an indoor environment wouldn't studio flashes be preferable?

I think you did well - concerts are often tricky due to the continually varying lighting conditions but I find the K10D / D-FA100 combination does very well under those circumstances (I've used the same set up for taking pictures at greyhound racing under sodium lighting and have always been pleased with the results).

I love my K10D but my one (minor) complaint is the shutter sound - I agree it's probably the least discreet camera I've ever owned...

Don't see much 67 stuff come up here so if you don't have any luck try Ffordes - they currently have a 45mm for £199 and four 55mm's from £159 - £199. I'm sure they'd ship to France if you asked them.
