Sorry to miss the point, I assumed you were a little more familiar with cameras than you say you are.

I was only suggesting the WS60 because it's cheaper, will have fewer image problems with a lower count sensor and is waterproof.

I agree with others on this thread that the current Optios aren't the best Pentax have sold, for those you need to look at the older (no longer available) 5 meg models.

I have a Panasonic Lumix, currently at university with my son, which I found slow to focus and often missed shots with it. The Optio E50 was a replacement for it, but that has problems. It was a cheap model though and seldom comes out of Green mode.

In your situation I'd head down to Jessops/Currys/P.C.World and try a few of the suggested alternatives out.

Then order from a reputable supplier like SRS.

Why the P80?

I think that 12 meg on an APS sensor is a little OTT!

I have an old E50 which only has 8 megapixels and find that noise is a problem at higher ISO settings.

As an alternative, for a sporty type how about a WS80?

The price is OK and with the looks of the black/yellow model no one will nick it!

Check this for a price.

If it's the camera send it to me...

...as for the dust, I haven't a clue!

Get both!

Seriously, the lens takes up less space and won't over load your current tripod....

Just think long and hard before going ahead.

IR may seem a good idea now but in six months time...

My mum didn't have much joy with a Kodak digital compact, one (lithium ion) battery died, the replacement did the same 6 months later.

My mothers old Kodak did the same, but my daughters first camera, a basic 3meg Kodak is still going strong despite having been out in the rain, dropped, left in freezing cars etc.

Older models seem better, built in obsolescence aside, and seem to life far longer than the current throw away models.

Seems that the best thing to do is get a new pocket camera! Good luck.

This is the only forum I'm an active member on.

I no longer visit the climbing one I used to use as injury and bad weather have slowed down any outdoor stuff...

...except photography.

Wonderful photos Jon, you can probably refurbished the camera to make it more sensitive and of course polish the lens coating away of your lens
But if you do you won't be able to use the camera 'normally'.

Nice pics, I like #2 for the feeling ofdepth and desolation.

This is something I've been meaning to try for a while now, one day I'll gat a filter...

So will Jessops become another Woolworths?

Only selling on-line after disposing of the retail outlets on the main streets?
