My mum didn't have much joy with a Kodak digital compact, one (lithium ion) battery died, the replacement did the same 6 months later. She's given up and gone back to her Samsung film compact.

Just a straw clutching thing but are the terminals on the battery and in the camera clean. Careful what you use, cottonbuds on there own can be effective. Stear clear of liquids like WD40. Good luck.

Got a great idea for you. Take out all the inside stuff they put in Kodak cameras, fill it up with cement and use it as a door stopper or paperweight Seriously, once you pick up problems with those chuck it, unless you have great backup service in the area. These things also cost a lot to repair, you can just as well buy a new one.Good luck
Ps: don't take my first comment to serious, but think about it.

I quite agree with you - was just clutching at straws in hopes that it's something simple.
But really - 2 cameras dying on me in this short time [ the Fuji in August and now this Kodak ] - it's just unfortunate or mebbe it's me not meant to be using a camera .

Don't feel bad these things happen. Sorry about the loss of the cams. Don't know what I will do if I lose one of my compacts now cause each one has a function for me. All my cams sits between 3000 and 11000 shots taken.

My mothers old Kodak did the same, but my daughters first camera, a basic 3meg Kodak is still going strong despite having been out in the rain, dropped, left in freezing cars etc.My mum didn't have much joy with a Kodak digital compact, one (lithium ion) battery died, the replacement did the same 6 months later.

Older models seem better, built in obsolescence aside, and seem to life far longer than the current throw away models.
Seems that the best thing to do is get a new pocket camera! Good luck.

Agreed - I'll wait till the end of the week and see if it wants to live again - if not - well it's for the b..
Replacement will be later this year - though what I've no idea at present.
Let's get to grips with the K-x first - it's time to stop shooting automatically and start to take control of it , < shivering with a wee bit of fear >

I have a Kodak C703 P&S camera - handy wee thing , bought in 2007 [ I think ]
It has definitely been responsible for me getting more involved in Photography.
Since I got my K-x I have continued to use this , most recently for taking a record of the snow / ice clearance I'm doing in my back yard.
All was going well until suddenly yesterday the green ready light started flashing like and and the monitor went black - I'd taken about 4 photos from various angles . The lens was out
I took it that the batteries were dead - though I'd not noticed the indicator on the screen .
Went back in and changed the batteries - lens still out and the monitor was black . Got another set of batteries [ had been using Hybrios ] . No change . Not thrilled - went and found a set of Duracell rechargeables still in their original state on the Bubble card . Put them in -- nada
Disgusted - so grabbed the camera from the car [ wee HP 5 mega pixel job - had been my husband's walk about camera] finished the pics on that .
Put a set of Hybrios on to charge and left the Kodak alone till this morning.
Told Photomonk about this by e-mail and said that actually I was reluctantly coming to the conclusion that the K...k had demised .
We are both surprised since it's not by any means elderly .
His suggestion was to remove the SD card still in it , remove the batteries and put in a blank SD Card , and let the memory exhaust itself over a period of several days and then put in new batteries and see if it can be persuaded to come back to life .
I've done this , and will leave the camera alone in a warm room till Friday and then see what I can do , if anything , with it .
Anyone got any other ideas ? The manual isn't really any help - I have checked .
I've now looked at what was on the SD card in the Kodak - all previous pics are there OK but only the first one from yesterday
