The sigma 30mm 1.4 is an interesting option, will look into it.

This would be my 'go to' low light/wide aperture lens. Not worried about bellows.

I was trying to balance the loss in speed with the extra sharpness but sounds like its a bit more complicated. I had assumed they were largely the same design.

Certainly agree that its not all about the numbers, I just don't want to buy another lense that doesn't bring something new to the table.

Apologies if this has been discussed to death in the past but I'd be interested to hear from people who have done a direct comparison of these two lenses.

I have an FA1.4 and I'm generally happy with it. However, I've been looking at an FA1.7 and have heard that it's generally thought to be the better lense - particularly when looking at sharpness at wide apertures.

My wife dropped the k200 on the pavement - (un?)fortunately there was no damage...

Still upgraded to a k5 though

I've just added an ebay sourced (:shock hand strap to my k5 and I'm loving it so far. I find it far more natural and secure than a neck strap. If I really need hands free, I'll put it back in the case.

Perfectly reasonable to ask for clarification, although it doesn't always seem to be appreciated around here.

It seems this is an interesting area for lenses where neither ultimate quality or ultimate versatility are the objective. I asked a similar question on fast zooms recently and got some helpful replies.

I'm now tempted to keep the 18-250 for versatility and buy a selection of primes for specialist jobs (already got the FA50/1.4 and a 300mm f4).

What I meant to type was:

"I was surprised how many multicolour photos turned up in a monochrome competition."

I like the site but was surprised when I couldn't access certain articles. I understand that there is always a cost to running a site but its usually borne by those benefitting commercially. I would have also thought that the adverts on most pages would bring in enough revenue to run the site.

Ah well.
