Just a quick hello to go with my first competition entry. Going to try to take part regularly as motivation to get out taking pictures.

Appreciate that my entry isn't up to the standards usually seen here but was out on a walk and the competition subject popped into my head. Limited time to think with a pregnant wife to get home...

Thanks for the comments guys, will definitely keep using the old kit (not wasting it when it cost £75 in 1973!) but the SP500 may wait a while before being used...

I've got one as a 'back pocket' camera and it does OK for the price. Weaknesses are its pretty slow in low light conditions and the AF can be noisy in certain modes. Otherwise it does what it says on the tin.

Hi there!

A fairly inexperienced pentax user here having bought a K200d as my first DSLR and an optio for the back pocket at parties...

However, I do have my grandfather's camera bag and in it I found an SP500, grip, flash, 3 lenses (more below) and a teleconverter. Alongside all this was the original receipt from 1974 and Pentax catalogue and manuals!

I have to admit that the SP500 was the inspiration for me getting a Pentax DSLR and I'm glad I did as I can now play around with a 55mm f2, a 35mm f2.8 and a 135mm f2.8. Certainly learning a few things this way and taking some pics I simply couldn't capture with the 18-250mm stock lens.

Anyway, hopefully learn some things on here and track down a reasonable FA 1.4!
