Hi,
I have the 400mm f5.6 and the 1000mm f8. I've been searching for a 500mm f4.5 for ages but I've never seen one for sale here in South Africa.

I love them both.

Hi Clarky,

It works for me, just downloaded it again to make sure it was the one I had and unfortunately it is.

I would really appreciate a clear copy.

Thanks, that's the one I downloaded, it's a very bad photo copy of the original. I was hoping for something clearer.

Hi,

Could anyone please help me with a copy of the instruction manual which came with this bellows unit, I have downloaded a copy from the web but it's a very poor quality copy.

PDF or jpeg format would be fine.

Regards
Greg

Thanks I prefer this version, does more for my ego.

Please do not super glue the aperture ring to f11! If you really need to fix it use tape or something removable!
Cheers, Kris.

Now if I were a sensitive person I would be seriously offended by this comment, but I'm not I do understand that I'm only the caretaker of this lens at the moment and must preserve it for the next owner.

John, I had all the packing materials out so that I could send it to my daughter in Hertford for you to collect, but I've changed my mind.

Thanks Peter much as I would like to be into the * and Limited quality lenses I'm confined to the M, A, K, and M42 category and I don't like autofocus.

I should actually sit down and do this test with all my lenses, particularly the K1000mm f8, I'm sure the sweet point will be the same for all, but at least I will know how sharp each lens can be.

Well I ran a more controlled test this morning and have posted the results to Flickr, link

Camera K200D
ISO 400
Shutter set to two second delay.
ME split focus screen and the green hex focus confirmation,
Manfrotto tripod.
Green button pressed at each change in aperture.
The subject was exactly 10m from the camera.
The only PP done was to balance the exposure in Adobe RAW, as it underexposed more and more as the aperture decreased, why I don't know, and they were auto-sharpened once in Elements 6.

If you load the original size you get a much better idea of the quality.
The aperture and shutter speed appear in red on each photo.

Conclusions:- My interpretation
f5.6, There is a lot of purple fringing, bad contrast and fuzzy.
f8, Slight purple and fair contrast and resolution.
f11, Resolution and contrast good.
f16, Resolution and contrast good.
f22, Resolution and contrast good.
f32, Resolution down and contrast not so good.
f45, Resolution even worse and contrast also worse.

So as I see it, the lens can do the job as long as I play my part. I think I'll super glue the aperture ring in the f11 position to reduce the chance of operator error.

Thanks for the advise and please let me have your feedback, I'm on a steep learning curve.
