Only a thought, but have you changed the startup picture?

This could be filling up the internal memory, and is a protected file :
Try changing this back to the default startup screen.

*ist has the "crippled" mount, so in short: no.

Search through the threads in this forum, there has been plenty of discussion on this.

Just to confirm what George said, it takes SD memory cards. It is also compatable with Multimedia cards (MMC), but these tend to be more expensive and slower.

I have used cards up to 512MB without problems, but have seen concerns on other forums about 1GB card support (it seems to be pretty inconsistent).

The problem is probably that Adobe Premier does not have the required codec for the S4's avi files (I've never used it so feel free to correct me!)

AVI, like MPEG can cover a multitude of formats. The S4 uses MJPEG.

It should be fairly easy to find the required codecs on the net. Google "mjpeg codec adobe premier" for a start.

Hope this helps

Does this need to be a sticky????

I have the S4, and have taken some great shots (IMHO) using Night Mode. You MUST use a tripod, and ideally the remote shutter release. If you don't have this, you can use the self timer, so that you don't touch the camera/tripod while taking the shot.

I've seen a Sigma PKA 24mm f2.8 Super Wide II for sale. Has anyone any experience of this lens?

The Optio 550 (indeed most of the Pentax range) have one of the best (shortest) shutter lags on the compact digital market. I doubt the Cannon is much better.

What can effect this is light. The lag is low in good conditions, but in low light conditions the shutter lag seems to be worse.

You can use the pre-focus by holding the shutter release half way, and this will significantly reduce the time taken to capture. As always, have a good play and experiment in a variety of conditions before parting with your hard earned dosh!!

Only way I believe is to use a TV card on your computer, and use the AV output from the Optio, as there is no "realtime" output via USB as far as I know.

This is not paticularly satisfactory, and if you don't already have a TV card, you would probably find it cheaper and easier to buy a dedicated webcam.

That said if anyone knows better I'm willing to listen!!

I have been trying a few night shots of London recently with my Optio S4. I have produced some excellent shots(by my standards!), but many have been wrecked by huge amounts of flare. I realise as a compact it is quite limited, but do any of you gurus have any practical tips to reduce, or correct flare?

Or am I just better off with my old P50, until I can sell my girlfriend and get a *ist D!

Thanks for all your comments. It looks like I will have to go away and have a long play with what I have before I spend any money.

I don't think, price and quality wise, home printing is truly competative to lab results (15p for a 6" x 4" with Jessops). So the revolution is still a way off. If I have to have them processed next-day in shop for quality prints, I am no better off than using my 35mm.

Well perhaps that is a bit harsh, there are other benefits to digital, but it is no cheaper, which was one of the selling points for me
