Hi there - I'm after a M42-Pentax K-mount adapter if anyone has one going spare.

Many thanks.

Hey Fritz, thanks a lot for the offer. I'll hold off for the time being as there are some coming up on auction sites, but if I end up with noting and you still have yours in a few days I'll be getting touch.

I've been looking at some cheap M42 lenses for my K-5 but I'm put off by the insane cost of the proprietary Pentax adapter - £65 for a ring of metal seems nuts.

I would have thought a very well machined piece of decent grade metal could turn a manufacturer a decent profit at a 3rd of that price.

However, I've read a comment about them suggesting that a friend of a friend's nephew's flat mate once had a 3rd party copy lock up in his nice shiny K-5 body.

So has anyone ever compared versions and can anyone recommend a decent copy/source?

Thanks a lot for any help anyone can offer.

Actually, I think I've just found the answers to most of my questions:

I'm looking for a straight forward introduction. Does anyone know of resources?

Basically I want to know which will autofocus and which won't, which will fit straight on a K-5 and which need mounts, and which are good for a beginner like me to look out for and where to look to get them a reasonable prices.

So not asking too much then!

I'm wondering about keeping the kit lens, getting the cheapo 50-200mm and then using them until I get a feel for what I like.

Today I could have done with a 35mm f2.4

Photome results show it's new, and...

A rake of other awesome details - thanks a lot John for mentioning it - damn handy info. I was hoping digital cameras might be able to record this sort of data.

Fecked and drunk, so more involved tests are gonna have to wait a day or so.

Thanks Chris.

I wasn't trying to keep a state secret, just avoid making it unnecessarily apparent. So much for that idea!

I'm aware of their reputation - that's why I bought it from them, and they've been completely professional so far.

As I've said a few times above, I'm not unduly concerned, and I'm just after some peace of mind, which I suspect JohnX and Dodge's suggestions will give me.

I have a Sigma 18-250, bought from Aliengrove. It is a good lens, but I am thinking of selling it again to free up some cash for other things.
Orly?

Got a figure in mind?
