I have been using Aperture for years, ok maybe these days not the most up to date app out there, but I like what it did.

For me it did the basic stuff - imported my RAW PEF's - allowed me the basic manipulation I wanted, crop, levels and sharpness.

But most important, I liked the way it could catalogue, store and arrange my images.

Couldn't be without it, it still runs on my iMac with El Capitan version 10.11.6 - the iMac is too old to run Sierra, but I do have a MacBook Pro running Sierra, the latest OSX, and it still runs Aperture and works well.

Aperture is a memory and power hog and will run your fans at max if you are doing a lot with it, but I'm still reluctant to let it go.

Not sure why it won't install for you, maybe just a warning about the memory and power use, but that is only while you use it.

I have started experimenting with some of the Macphun software, and I do like it, but I keep coming back to Aperture because of the way it stores my images within the app, although the Macphun stuff has plug-in's that work great with Aperture.

This was initially processed in Aperture, then I went way over the top using software from Macphun, not to everyone's taste, but you can reign it in

I don't get out with the camera so much now, busy with work and personal stuff, but with the Edinburgh Festival on my door-step, I had to make the effort.
Off to work on Monday in Wick and Thurso for two weeks, so hopefully find a couple of hours to get out with the K3.

Hi Martin, Torridon is a great place, I hope you manage to get there after all you have already got planned. You could probably spend a week in each place. The weather has been quite good in the Highlands over the last few years during April / May so probably the best time to go. I went up and down the West Coast last year at the end of May, and the 'monsoon' season had set in, rain every day for 10 days. A couple of nice evenings in Mallaig, but cold and wet the rest of the time.
I'm sure you will enjoy it though, and remember, Pentax cameras don't mind the rain

Scared to get out of the car mate, the midge wear Army Boots up there, and if it's not the midge, then it is the rain, you gotta be tough !!!

I used to belt round the Highlands calling at Health Centres and Doctor's Surgery's when I was working in Medical Physics. Never got the time to stop and climb the mountains. But there is a couple of spots on the A837 where you don't have to get out of the car to get an image.
