Try this :
1. Learn the Rule of Thirds (it's not gospel but it's a great place to start)
2. Check out all the excellent free software out there for processing photos.
3. Learn what objects should and should not be included in your shots (this is very noticeable from the series you posted above).
4. Experiment ! Digital is free and you can delete at will .. we all do

I think the reason for the 'softness' is possibly that you are using the wrong lens for the job. The 18-250 is not cut out for this type of work and is more of a general walkabout lens. You need a macro lens for this type of work. Maybe you could post some more general shots taken with this combination?
Regards
David
Post some more general shots (landscape, portraits, street scenes or events etc.) and we'll do our best to help !

Looks good, roads look better than the goat tracks we have.
You don't imagine that part of the crowded world to have open space.
Thanks for sharing.
The roads are great actually, way way better than in Shanghai where the incredibly high volume of traffic, and particularly over-laden goods vehicles and container semis on the ring and feeder A roads, often causes the road surfaces to disintegrate within a year or two of laying.
China has built / is building an incredible network, throughout this vast country, of what in the UK would be called motorways or dual carriageways to connect cities with the larger & medium sized towns throughout the country. All part of the plan to grow the country by encouraging metropolitanisation via better logistics.

Most were taken through the windscreen (at speed !) though there are two where I was so enchanted by the beauty around me I stopped to take a shot.
Although these don't do the scenery justice perhaps they will at least give you a flavour and just maybe you can also get a sense of the building excitement within me as I entered this prime birding real estate !
The last shot is of my 4-wheeled love, after coming back from birding a paddy field, I just liked the way she looked through the trees.

These are stunning... again!
Are they stuffed? Are you invisible? How do you get so close?
It's not just the closeness to the subject though. Lighting, focus, framing, plain background - it's all expertly done.
Now your next task we are setting you is KF in flight and KF entering and exiting the water with fish in beak, you have one week to complete this task
