At least with Pentax you can use CS3 with my Nikon D7000 it will not work with any lower than RAW 6.5 which can only be installed with CS5 or better.

I seem to remember installing the software which was bundled with the camera installed some files like this and even after uninstalling some files got left behind which can then be used by other programs.

RAW.dng and all jpeg modes seems to work most of the time, but RAW.pef fails every time.
I have a feeling something to do with camera buffer using a K10D.
I note with my Nikon D7000 it saves to camera in RAW and to PC as jpeg but with Pentax nothing seems to be saved to camera card.
I wonder if some setting will allow it to use card to save to? Once it goes wrong I have to close program with Task Manager unplug camera and switch off then start all over again. Idea was to use the interval timer but if crashes so often unless set to jpeg can't seem to get it to work.
I find easy to forget to check camera and if I go to jpeg running computer program it stays on jpeg once I stop running it. This can also be an advantage as in user mode I can set it to green with 100 - 1600 ISO and it will stay that way after unplugging so camera will auto move to 1600 when required.
Would love to hear how others have found the program.

Ancestors maternal were from Newcastle upon Tyne with the Palmer's ship yard and extended family in Turkey so I have travelled quite a bit. I must admit that when one takes a picture of a Camel pulling a single furrow plough it's the subject that makes the picture one does not need much skill.
But the Welsh do get around "Cymru Am Byth" is written in stone in Fitzroy Falkland Islands.

Remote Assistant should work with K10D. Think that was the camera it was developed for.
My guess would be that you're using on a later version of Windows than the one that it was developed for, and so you aren't getting permissions right for the USB connection. I don't use Windows though, so can't help with specifics.
Re websites, I'll send you a PM.
So will it work with Linux live disk. I no longer have a PC running Linux but have a selection of live disks. Memphis was the one I use to use as it would see my TV card.

With the old Vivitar I can use both flash guns which allows small aperture and all round lighting for close-up work. I use bendy leg tripod to hold second flash.
However try as I will I can't use inbuilt flash with second flash gun. It always seems to trigger the second flash too early I would assume with some pre-flash used to focus or something. Tried turning off anti-red eye with no avail.
I would have loved to have used built in flash but stuck with hot shoe for double flash work.
The Vivitar 3500 is very heavy on the two AA cells it uses and I have to select 2 x 2500mAh NiMh batteries using non rechargeable or small 700mAh NiCad batteries wait an age to recharge and only get around a dozen flashes.
So not impressed using K10D for flash but likely due to using old stuff.
As to focus the Nikon uses so much battery I would prefer to keep with K10D may be slower to focus but not swapping batteries all the time.
I would have liked live view which is good for focus I think if I change camera I would not get another SLR just can't see the point of using a mirror. Next likely a compact, like the idea of four thirds cameras.

Also the Pentax K10D does not use much battery. My problem is they last that long I forget to charge them. Then I swap battery and forget to charge the discharged one. The Nikon D7000 is another story need to carry a car charger for that it really eats batteries. I noted Canon and Nikon users in club with big extra lumps on bottom of camera for extra batteries I wondered why. Now I have a Nikon I know. Which is one of the reasons I love my Pentax.
