I paid more for mine at around £35 a 95 - 210 mm and it has done well. OK some draw backs with my K10D either wide open, or manual as the camera does not know setting of lens.

But I go an added bonus found when I reverse the lens the zoom becomes focus and the focus becomes zoom so quite good for close-up work.

On odd thing when reversed needs to be wide open or centre has a light spot.

Thanks nearly missed it the pin out was on a pdf at bottom end shutter centre focus and against cover is common.

I have a remote shutter release it has a stereo jack plug and just like the main shutter release button light touch does focus and heavy does shutter.

I would like to build a remote trigger using a Arduino but however I try with meter I can't work out which contact is common and which is shutter and which is focus.

Can anyone help. Camera a K10D.

Pentax was a one time leading the market with a lens mount which was used by many makes of camera. And as I said pro means ability to hire a lens. But to regain that would be hard I can't see how hire shops could be made to offer Pentax lenses for hire. Fuji, Hasselblad, Canon and Nikon have got the market Mamiya and some other specialised cameras have a small section but the question I am sure Pentax will ask before making a pro model is would any pro buy it with the lack of hire equipment.

At the moment the 4/3 market is in early days and it is possible to look at that as a way in. Once the mirror is removed the lens becomes smaller due to being closer to the sensor so to produce a pro camera with lighter lenses would be one way into the market and the difference in lens to sensor means adaptors could be made to take all makes of lens giving an option for any pro to move over bit at a time. This is the only way I would see how any camera manufacturer could break into the pro market.

To me a pro camera is one where lenses can be hired as and when required the enthusiast however is looking for a camera that works well as supplied and not looking to hire lenses. So Canon and Nikon are pro cameras not because they are any better but because you can hire a lens without problem to fit the camera. Clearly there will be the pro who does not need to hire a lens and likely they will either be using a large format or really small camera the latter where being not seen is an advantage.

We have seen how the Olympus trip was really loved no battery to go flat and small enough not to alert all there is some one taking photos. But in the TT that would not be the pro selection and it really does depend on what type of photography.

The enthusiast wants one camera to do all. The pro with select a camera to fit what he is doing.

Thanks worth remembering. I have only had one problem with broken files it was a faulty 16GB card would work for around 4GB then failed. Card returned and photos not important. I take the attitude looking at what you have taken means loosing opportunities so in the main only inspect when I get home. The card fault does point to being a good idea to review photos every so often. The auto view as each photo taken still worked but clicking back to old pictures did not.

Welcome I have two very different cameras the K10D was selected by me and the Nikon D7000 was originally my sisters and although on paper the D7000 is far better than the K10D I find the K10D far more user friendly.

Also the K10D is cheaper to get bits for. The K30 clearly better than my K10 but it's how you find using it that's important.

I am sure we all do the same. Start with Green everything and slowly move to using more and more of the options available. For me the biggest jump was the move to RAW. At first I only had Pentax bundled software and being frank it did not seem any advantage. Then I was introduced to Photoshop RAW and the easy to use sliders.

No need for expensive Photoshop RawTherapee does nearly the same for free.

Panning is a skill not only to capture the subject but to get the required blur on the rest. Theory says you need to be on the inside of a subject going around one so the distance between you and subject remains constant. However in real terms you have to just make the best of situation and up shutter speed to compensate for bad position.

With ISO 25600 against my ISO 1600 you have a clear advantage over me I really envy you.

My lens is very old f6.8 total manual 400mm so with K10D 600mm and I have the same problem with focus. However bird table, nest or other fixed location set the lens on a tripod and focus then sit with remote in hand until something lands at where you have trained lens and focused to seems to work much better than trying to follow the subject.

it was far easier to get the picture. What I have done is cheat and take picture of nest and picture of woodpecker on bird table and combine both in Photoshop.

I was always taught if at first you don't suck seed cheat!

In error I have just had the same problem. Knocked off lens hood picked it up and put it back on 90 degrees out. In Photoshop RAW 6.5 there is a post vignetting tool and I used that to correct the mistake. I had not realised the lens hood was so close to the limits.

As to tyronet2000 problem had same problem went into addons and removed the program but next time I looked back again so went to options security and exceptions and cleared all exceptions seems OK fingers crossed.

I set up the camera and PC to take a series of pictures of back garden and it started OK then failed. It would seem light is the real problem if there is loads of light it works well as light levels fall it fails. The smaller the file size the lower the light can go but even on smallest Jpeg it will work with 1/6 second seems the limit any exposure times below that and the transfer time between camera and PC means it times out.

This is not just Pentax the Nikon did the same but since the Nikon D7000 has a very high ISO it ran longer than Pentax before it failed. Clearly time to use the f2 fixed length lens.

I would love to hear how others have found the program? I had big ideas but seems back to remote shutter release with lock and watch the second hand.
