Hi David, It could possibly be a problem with the 'auto-update settings' on your two machines (re Adobe Bridge CS3). Your older machine may be set for auto-update whereas your newer machine may need to be enabled to this setting. Your newer machine might need the settings changed from 'manually update' settings' to 'auto-update' settings. Just guessing, but I expect the newer version of windows is a lot stricter in what it allows through automatically.

There are little programs called Codex which will allow you to see less normal file thumbnails I know I installed these with my old XP PC and one tends to forget what you have added.
I seem to remember installing the software which was bundled with the camera installed some files like this and even after uninstalling some files got left behind which can then be used by other programs.

OK I am running CS5 not CS3 but was looking at using an older laptop for time lapse and so needed to look at setting up laptop and I did find I needed to down load the Codex which is shown as for Windows 7 on the Adobe web site so had to find an older version for vista but it should work with yours. The same applies for Pentax RAW you need to install the Codex that works for Vista but not XP.
At least with Pentax you can use CS3 with my Nikon D7000 it will not work with any lower than RAW 6.5 which can only be installed with CS5 or better.
