Yes we had this before we bought the 55-300 and were pleased with it's value - I paid £30 from LCE.

The purple fringe was thew reason for it's replacement, a nightmare for shots of surf and black kit. But if that's not a problem for what you shoot, go for it.

Almost always when on the PC I am either

- listening to what's on TV e.g. later today I will listen to the build up to F1 GP qualifying listening out for anything I want to actually 'see, If that happens I go over rewind on the PVR and actually watch that bit. Will move to just watching the TV once qualy actually starts.

- listening to music, right now I am listening to PJ Harvey's Mercury prize winning albumn 'Let England Shake' on Spotify, to see what I make of it.

Yes, I had a dead pixel on my k-x and used the 'pixel mapping' and all is now fine.

I don't know which body you have but you should be able to find it in your cameras menu's / handbook.

Thanks for the info. very helpful.

I have to confess to being out off by needing to pay for an 'annual service' to keep the seals waterproof as I was only looking for a cheap one for occasional use e.g. the fuji SRS have at £99.

Maybe best to forget it for the momment & keep yo shooting on the shore with the K10D and telephoto.

HI a quick general question that a search didn't answer.

On a watch the Water Resistant depth is not a pure measure - i.e. a watch saying 50M Water Restistant is really only 'splash proof', you need at least 100M to say swim in one.

Waterproof cameras quote depths like 3M, 10M, 12M - are those true, depths or is some 'translation' required as with watches.

I want a camera to take with me surfing and maybe the odd snorkling trip so if it's a true depth a presumably a Waterproof to 3M would be fine

Personally, I would go for repair if it cost effective because a claim on my home insurance would mean losing No Claims Bonus ( I know not all policies have this) , and having to put details of the claim into Confused.com etc. when I come to renew each year for the next c.5 years and potentially higher premiums because of it.

Depends I guess if you have recent claims already it may not be such an issue, but it definately can affect the premiums quoted.

Hugely annoyed at BBC doing this to save money mid contact. Don't they realise 'gifting' viewers to Sky will ultimately undermine the need for a Licence funded service.

I'll never sign up for Sky ( even if it were not Murdoch owned I hate the way they do business) so will maybe look at the Freesat for german coverage option.

As I have a litle inside knowledge of UK banking technology I will add what I can. Instant payment between UK banks should now be in , it's a system called Faster Payments.

However, there are 2 reasons why not all banks have it for every payment
1. the change to technology systems can be easier and so take less time for some banks than others, depending on how old / flexible their underlying platforms are. This is compounded when Banks are merging and are trying to do this at the same time as merging / changing their platforms.

2. 'Faster Payments' is a bit of a fraudsters paradise (for obvious reasons I won't go into why & how on a public forum). Some Banks put an upper limit on them & that limit can change as circumstances change. So, you could send 2 payments to the same person in the same way but if one of them is above the limit it will go the 'old way' or be subject to further verification. Others decide they need to introduce new security measures before moving to Faster Payments.

I see every day how long IT changes take in Banking, even when the will is there from the Board to make a change ASAP, it's quite frankly astounding how much is involved, especially the amount of testing that has to be undertaken to ensure that once lauched it works and doesn't adversely impact related IT processes.

Well, I am shocked I only got 70% (C-) as a 40 something educated to degree level I am sure I used to be able to spell OK.

I think it must be 10+ years relying on spellchecking has addled my brain. ( Or it's the Medication - I can always blame 'the medication' if all else fails)
