Hi George,

Ive seen this on ebay and comes with the trigger for the hot shoe.

Would this flash unit be anygood for my purposes?

If i bought 2 would they both operate from the one hot shoe trigger?

Will they trigger from the light from the pop up flash or would i have to buy a 3rd basic flash to sit on top of the trigger?

Seeing as a pair of 540's will be approx £560 and there arent any of the 500s around second hand currently ive seen this sigma flashgun from srs what do you think of them? ive read else where they can operated wirelessly.

A pair will set me back over £200 plus tripods and diffusers , the 540's seem great but i cant justify the outlaw as im only starting this style of photography.

actually that multi pop strobe effect can be put to good use in arcitecture, or product/still life photography.
say those floors for example......

say you have several flashes, set up to light the floor, but not enough power to get the dof you want.

you can calculate how many pops you'd need to "Build up" your exposure to get the right aperture you need for dof.
set a long enough shutter speed to cover the number of flash pops ( and recycle times) you need and set up the 500 ftz to give you that many pops in the right amount of time, and fire your shot.

five or ten half power pops from a couple ftzs will certianly match the full power pops of my elinchrom studio strobes (and maybe then some).
lol im totally lost!!!

I don't have one, but George has two, judging by his sig.

They're TTL, not P-TTL, so you'd have to use them in manual or automatic on a K10D or K100D.

But they've got a fair bit of power, and it's the only Pentax gun, I believe, that can fire a strobed burst of individual flashes, which is a nifty feature if you're into that sort of thing.

BTW, if you want to do floors, have you considered natural light, a tripod, and small apertures in conjunction with long exposures?
Hi Chris,

I have considered using natural light along with auto bracketing as my hdr software has the ability to create a 5 shot hdr in "photographic" mode which dosent create the usual unnatural hdr effect if that makes sense.
Only thing is ive been asking the owner of the property how much available light is in the building and all he really says is its a 3 storey victorian house with fair light in west london and his sofas arent very attractive!! i think ill just have to make the 90 minute drive and do some test shots and see how they come out if theyre not good enough the wood importer will have to buy a pair of those pentax 540 flashguns and ill do it for free!! ive got the tripod already so thats a start.

Perhaps i should have worded that a little differently!

Ill do my best , i get on well with these girls so im hoping it will be a good experience for all involved and that will come through in my shots.

Ive also been asked by a wood importer to take some shots of their domestic floor installations , the first location is in london but if i get it right theyll pay me togo to ireland to do some work - do you think a couple of the pentax flashguns with diffusers will do the job for this or am i looking at something totally different?

Sorry its all questions but things seem to have gone a little crazy!

Hi George,

Thankyou for your good advice , the stock lens sounds like it will give the best result for me the only thing is my first few girls arent exactly what you might call stunners so i might have to employ some soft focus or try my tamron lens!

The pentax flashguns sound a better idea as i would like to do some shots outside as well and i gather you can set them up to fire remotely so the camera can be further away.

I have looked on ebay but unfortunately i cant see any for sale second hand but if you or any other members know where i can pick up a 2nd hand bargain id be interested. Are these flashguns a good second buy in terms of reliability and longevity? What sort of life do the bulbs have and are they expensive to replace?

Cheers Again.
